Apple TV CommentaryWhat a joke! - Version: 3.0.1, 11/12/2009 04:34AM PST

Apple TV compared to Western Digital is a joke. WD TV Live will play anything that you throw at it!

HD video over HDMI with AC3 or DTS no problem. Apple give the people what they want. You can push the iTunes store just so far then it starts work against you.

Apple TV CommentaryHD size? - Version: 3.0.1, 11/8/2009 07:16PM PST

HansBR
Well, Apple TV is at this time only available with a 160GB hard drive.
And when, (after I think over a year now) will appear a more decent HDsize with 300 or 500 GB, which avoids until now, that many others and I will purchase an AppleTV?

Apple TV ReviewVersion 3.0 - Version: 3.0, 10/30/2009 07:24AM PST

This update fixed a lot of the issues I had been experiencing (hangs, sync problems and slow response to commands). The new interface is much more responsive and intuitive. Internet radio is a welcome addition as well. Apple TV is much maligned, but it does what it is designed to do and it is a good addition to my pile of audio/video entertainment devices. I do think Apple TV could be, with a little bit more love from Apple, a real player in the multimedia-in-a-box racket.

Apple TV Troubleshooting Report2.3 : multiple audio track issue, sleep mode issue - Version: 2.3, 12/8/2008 07:52AM PST

2.3 introduced the ability, by pressing "pause" 3 sec, to access a menu "chapters and audio tracks" ; there is an issue with audio track selection : I made a .m4p with 2 tracks (english + french) ; when played, video was OK but no sound. Audio track menu showed both tracks "deactivated" ; I select "french" for example, and I get then the "french" track (although it keeps showing "deactivated") ; I switch to "english" : it works ; but from that point, impossible to switch back to "french", I have to stop the movie, select it again and then the selected audio track is "french".
Generally speaking : 2 audio tracks (maybe more) means no sound when movie plays first time; you have to select manually one ; if the selected language is "english", you wont be able to switch to another language without stopping first the movie and replay it.
Something else : the sleep mode, which was accessed by pressing "menu" more than 6 sec (before 2.2) disappeared in 2.2, and was supposedly reintroduced in 2.3 ; it was, but only on the main menu ; it used to work everywhere ... which was very useful when you had your TV shut down and wanted to send your ATV to sleep mode, too.

Apple TV Usage TipRemote learning rocks - Version: 2.3, 11/20/2008 08:31PM PST

Rault
The 2.3 update seems good so far; and the new "remote learning" feature is great! It's buried in Settings \ General \ Remotes \ Learn Remote.

Finally you can ditch that annoying tiny remote, and use your DVR remote (or any other) with AppleTV. After learning the basic functions (the up/down/left/right and play-pause and menu--the ones on the apple remote), there's 9 more functions it'll learn: play, stop, pause, FF, REW, Skip back, Skip forward, and Chapter up & down.

Makes the AppleTV MUCH easier to control and less clutter on the coffee table.

[With the standard TimeWarner DVR remote, it took a few tries in programming its AUX button to be a DVD player that actually sent out a signal for the Skip-back button... the one that worked best is a virtual Sharp DVD player; only the blue "menu" button didn't work so I used the grey "exit" button. It's code 252 for the remote -- UR5-8400.]

Apple TV CommentaryV2.2 Disabled my Apple TV - Version: 2.2, 10/3/2008 07:47PM PST

I did the update and now when it boots up, it will go to the boot up splash and then back to the Apple Icon. It then continues to blink on and off and never goes to the menu screen. I'm doing a factory restore and hopefully I can get this updat to work. I've never had problems with updates before.

Apple TV Reviewfinally - music video playlists, and HD shows, Genius - Version: 2.2, 10/3/2008 01:16PM PST

Paul_Christensen
AppleTV 2.0 was a big step forward, but it *still* didn't allow Music Video playlists. This is something the iPod can do with ease.

Now, under the guise of the AppleTV 2.2 update which provides HD TV shows and Genius support, we have a whole lot of other features, including video playlists!

This version downloaded quickly and updated smoothly - finally, my AppleTV is complete.

Apple TV Commentaryv 2.0.2 downloaded & installed with no problems - Version: 2.0.2, 4/14/2008 09:27PM PST

Felix01
Downloaded 2.0.2 over a 3.5 Mbps DSL line. The progress bar said eight minutes. I didn't time it but that seemed about right for the download plus another couple minutes for the restart and install. No issues noted. In fact, I can't see much difference at all.

I know this isn't the same as what people want, but since Apple TV 2 supports AirTunes, you could use internet radio in iTunes and stream it to the Apple TV I think.
