That's what iMailYourLink does. iMailYourLink will mail the link of the front most window in safari with your default mail application (mail, entourage, thunderbird...) to the destination of your choice. With iMailYourLink it's as simple as a click!

The Mac OS has had copy and paste for a long, long time. Why do we need even a freeware program to do this?

Have you ever heard of command-shift-i?

Not to knock the developer, but typing command-shift-i while in Safari opens your default mail app with the current URL in the message.
