Simple Cataloger CommentaryNo Hierarchical File List - Version: 2.1, 10/13/2007 09:56PM PST

Sophya
This app does work as advertised, and is a good start; however, like every other OSX folder/file cataloger I have looked at during the past several years ever since John Eriksson's old, trusty, Classic program "Catalogger" became obsolete, (he chose not to fix the graphic bug in the OSX version, thus rendering it useless), this program does NOT create a hierarchical file list. Everything is simply listed, (folders and files), flush up against the left margin of the text file.

Sub-folders, and files within folders, should all be indented accordingly, showing their proper relationship between folder and file levels above and below them in the hierarchy.

Also, it would be useful if the user had the option to choose what type of text file to use...TextEdit, .rtf, BBEdit, etc., and perhaps even PDF for those who may prefer that.

Also, the user should have the option regarding where to save the text file.

Another point...The app should have drag and drop capabilities. One should be able to drag a specific drive, volume, disk or folder on the app icon, and it will immediately begin to go to work, based on whatever prefs have been previously set during the last use.

Once drag and drop is working, you can even implement some code so that if a user drags something onto the app icon, it can ask if the user wishes to use the default settings they have made, or change some of the settings first.

The ability to define precisely how many folder levels to drill down while catalogging would also be a big plus. A user might want to catalog folders C through G, but not A,B, or anything after G.

Improve on the above points, and I think your app might be in high demand, as there is currently no OSX cataloger that fully matches the feature set of the old Classic "Catalogger" by Swimpsoft's John Eriksson.

I hope these points are useful to you.

Currently, I still use "Catalogger 1.0" in Classic mode on one of our G4's running Tiger 10.4.10, because it is the only program that meets my needs. And BTW, "Catalogger" is/was freeware. :)
