A well thought out editor with plenty of cool features. Basically, the idea is that on-screen reading is much easier if stuff is in columns. This is the basis of programs like Stanza or Tofu. Diamond turns this idea of working in columns into a Text Editor. I use it to open long rtf documents, which are easier to read and edit in this Diamond than conventional editors. The program is very configurable, and includes the ability to roll up windows, among many other cool features. I'd love to see window floating too. To me that would make the program complete. The reviews of the program in earlier iterations should be ignored. It is totally stable. Thanx to this generous developer for making this program freely available.

The product looks nice, but... i just lost a document because of diamond crash on leopard. I was typing for half an hour, didn't save the document. I made a break, then returned to document, and instead of my document i saw a clean window, free of any text. I wanted to quit diamond, but it said i have 2 documents unsaved. So i closed the empty document, and my typed document is in front of me again. I push save, and the program crashes. After i restart diamond, no sign of my document anywhere. Rebooted my mac, hoping to find it in trash in recovered files - but no luck. So I erased diamond, and live happily with textedit, which is much more reliable=)

It divides a document into pages and displays these horizontally rather than vertically.
I guess this makes it a document (multicolumn editor).
I was hoping for a (multicolumn document) editor.

I just downloaded this. I haven't had a chance to use it extensively, but from what I can see it seems pretty useful. I'm looking forward to writing in it.

I have made a couple of internal fixes and added a titlebar option based on recent feedback. This new version can be downloaded with the "Check for Updates" feature in the app after downloading the 2.0 release package.

The great staff at VersionTracker have adjusted the download link to point directly to the download directory, getting around a glitch with my site hosting security.

Apologies for the issue but for some reason attempting to download through the VT link is corrupting the archived file. If you go to the developer website you can download from there with no problem.

The download link didn't work when I tried it. The correct one is http://www.geoffreyalexander.com/downloads/Diamond.zip
