Product Description:

aTypeTrainer4Mac is a multilingual typing tutor. It is an advanced version of TypeTrainer4Mac. It can be used with a large variety of system and custom keyboard layouts. External RTF files can be connected to the application as additional exercises. Each session provides its own run log.

What's new in this version:

(compared with TypeTrainer4Mac 2.8.2)

  • Preferences are modified and extended with many new features:
    • A new default priority-option Accuracy makes possible to include backspace training before retyping errors
    • You can set tabulator as string terminator
    • You can customize even the color of the background of the run log's icon
    • Sound customization is extended:
      • You may customize both sounds that of the metronome as well as that accompanying the smiley
      • You may connect any downloaded or recorded sound
  • Connecting RTF files is extended:
    • You can connect them using file-menu
    • By dropping a text file over the aTypeTrainer4Mac dock icon you can begin with text training right away
  • Calculating the typing speed is improved: the interval between playing sound at the beginning of the string and the first keystroke is no more accounted for, so you don't have to rush any more typing the first character; however, displaying the reminder in non-registered copies will affect the typing speed
  • Run log is restructured and improved
  • Extended statistics are added to the run log. After each part of the training and additionally at the end of the session, the following values will be output:
    • totally typed characters
    • wrongly typed characters
    • typing time
    • average speed
    This feature is available only for registered versions!
  • When selecting keys in the Select-Mode, you can additionally select keys using a keyboard. In earlier versions the key selection was possible only using a mouse.
    This option is not available for Mac OS X 10.3.x!
  • When typing with the closed drawer, the drawer will be automatically opened after a double mistake
  • When typing with the opened drawer, the drawer will be automatically closed after appearing of the smiley
  • Some minor improvements

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.3.x or 10.4.x

  • Please note that aTypeTrainer is not compatible (partially or completely) with the following apps: Jack server & WindowShade X.
    You should deactivate these apps when running TypeTrainer.

it has levels, shifts gears automatically when it detects you have passed the level
nice interface,
you can import text for training,
has a metronome timer that you can click off


and most importantly for me it was multi-lingual
it works beautifully for Arabic

very well done
many thanks to the brilliant developer

I don't think an application is necessary. It is possible to learn touch typing online. Go to: http://www.sense-lang.org/typing/
