Product Description:

PixelWalker is a fast, lightweight image browser. This application is useful to quickly navigate and browse images which are stored in folders (such as a cd) rather than in a photo management application like iPhoto. PixelWalker is much more productive than manually using the Finder and Preview applications, and PixelWalker provides support for integration of both of those programs, as well as any other image application on your system. Features include fast navigation, full keyboard control, PDF and Multi-Page Tiff support, external editor launching, automatic JPEG rotation, extensive zoom and pan, and more.

What's new in this version:

  • fixed a bug where page up jumps to the previous page before the view was fully at the top
  • last image is no longer shown if a directory is selected
  • added a Fit Width zoom mode (mostly usable for document files)
  • when initially selecting Fit Width, pages will scroll to the top
  • fixed a bug when a directory was selected and the user tries to open in Preview, or open in Editor - all files would be opened before
  • fixed a bug where center point was not maintained during zoom operations
  • added page up and page down key control for the image area (seems more natural with PDF and Multi-Page Tiff files)
  • page up and page down will jump to the top or bottom of the following page
  • added page navigation button controls
  • added go to page popup when clicking the page numbers field
  • added a button for the Finder's Get Info window
  • added an indicator icon to the image area when an excluded file is selected, or file size is larger than user preferences
  • added PDF support (as vector data)
  • added multi-page TIFF support
  • added keyboard page navigation for first, last, next, previous, and go-to
  • added current page indicator in lower right corner
  • added drop down Tool menu with keyboard equivalents
  • faster image loading
  • rotation now happens immediately
  • clearer preference panel labels

PixelWalker ReviewExcellent no-nonsense app - Version: 0.8.1, 9/27/2007 09:35PM PST

I found this app most useful when uploading images to the web - most web-based upload dialogue boxes don't offer preview, and as I don't tend to use meaningful filenames it is hard to know what you are uploading. PixelWalker is small, fast, and unobtrusive running in the background, I can Cmd-Tab to it when needed and preview my whole image library without the clunkiness of iPhoto or Preview.app. The keyboard shortcuts are really helpful.

PixelWalker ReviewNeeds thumbnail rendering, but good potential - Version: 0.7.0b, 7/1/2007 10:25AM PST

A good start, and looks like it could grow into the best of the various freebie image browsers. (I've just checked out a bunch of them, and this has the most potential. Finder-style column view for browsing, but <B>won't show thumbnails<B>, which is a BIG downside. Auto rotates & quick to render full size images. Folder browser takes up a lot of the top of the window, so portrait pictures appear too small, with lots of wasted real-estate. If it could incorporate the metadata display & thumbnail handling of Photo Browser it would be perfect. Remembers last folder/file visited between restarts, but doesn't remember toolbar customisation. No Cancel button on Preferences dialog.
