Wireshark ReviewSo far, so good - Version: 0.1, 11/26/2007 03:41PM PST

I've been using Wireshark and Ethereal before it on FreeBSD, Linux, and Windows for years, and have been using the X11 builds on OS X for about 4 years. I upgraded my MacBook to Leopard last week, and so quickly hit Version Tracker looking for a Leopard-ized WireShark build. A co-worker asked about it today, so I finally got around to installing it. So far, it seems to work pretty well. Packet capture is working like a charm, and I can right-click a packet and to 'Follow TCP Stream' while still capturing. Excellent!

I plan to use this extensively in the next few weeks, so I'll give it a thorough wringing out. I'm going to grab an X11 build in case this proves to be too unstable to use, but I hope it will suffice. It sure would be nice to have a real aqua UI on WireShark, but since I'm not stepping up to the plate on that one, I don't have much room to complain...

Having used ethereal for quite a while, I liked the idea of having it more intergrated. I've seen the installation running on a MacBook Pro. Icon in the dock and presto!
However... still owning a Powerbook, I'm feeling left out in the cold. I still have to start things manually.
If things would crash and I have to reinstall, the Intel version wouldn't do me any good.
I tried to install it, it only won't run the binary. :-(
Looking at the version I have here, I must say that when using it, it is a very cool and handy tool.
