This program is so good it feels like it's made by Apple. It's one of those like Growl that "just work!" and feel like they should be a part of your OS
I have been searching for something like this for quite some time and I am extremely satisfied!
I have 3 computers and I like to have a lot of files shared between them - in the past I had to drag them around the network or tried using those folder syncing programs that just such REAL bad.
With Picnic, whenever you change a file in one place, it immediately changes it in the other computer as well, keeping everything in sync!
There's ONE thing that shouldn't be limited which is the blocking of folders like Library - even though if gives you a warning saying you can use it but it may cause trouble (fair enough) it doesn't actually let you use it. The fix is simple though, open the application packages, go to the resource folders and search for a plist file called FolderBlackList and open it in TextEdit. Then delete everything you want and just leave the ( ). That'll do the trick.
I tried having Adium synchronised but it changes files so often it becomes annoying and potentially screw something up, so I disabled it - but for folders like "workflow" which are in the library, it's worth doing it - be careful though.
I believe Leopard will use Bonjour a little more for networking files but I don't think Picnic will be included. This is truly awesome!
Couple of suggestions:
1- I think there should be a log of the files changed and updated - if you miss the Growl notification sometimes you may not know what happened.
2- Deleting folders doesn't seem possible - so if you decide to unsubscribe all computers (like I did with Adium preferences) the folder seems to remain there.
3- The Queue tab doesn't seem to show which file is being synchronised nor the percentage - this would be nice)
4- There should be an option to not show warning messages like when you delete a file it'll ask you if you want to delete it on the other computer as well - although this is good, there should be an option like (always do this for all files for this folder) or something like that. It can become a bit annoying having to "authorize" every time a file gets deleted.
5- There should be an option to allow you to schedule syncs rather than do it automatically. For things that are often changed, like settings for instance, it would be nice to do it every hour or every day or week - It'd be nice for things like Firefox - like, if I add an extention to one computer, it does it on the other as well, but only at the end of the day.
I know these things take away from the beautiful simplicity of this application and it's just me being picky, but it's something to think about.
6- Not being able Hiding the application on Menu bar is probably one of the biggest flaws of this app (which really says a lot). It's simply constantly open on your dock and that's not very nice considering the ability to hide it on the top menu (like azereus, growl and others) is there.
7- I'd like to be able to drag folders that you want added - rather than just "select" a folder from the list.
8- Also, when you go to Subscribe the folder on the other computer, it should attempt to "discover" which folder it is you're trying to link to - all my folders are in exactly the same place on the other computer and yet I still need to specify them.
That's it really I guess....
As a designer, I really appreciate the effort put into the icon. looks amazing!
I normally don't leave reviews but this program truly deserved it - and I didn't hesitate to pay the 30 dollar asking price.
If the developer's reading this, please send me an email and I'll be delighted to help further test!

... to sync and exchange files between three macs. It worked from start and does it every day for us.
Realy good idea :-)
Realy good idea :-)
In mid-October I purchased a 5-user license. Within days I had emailed the developer the following message. Followed up resending it again several days later. After about 4 weeks I've still heard nothing back.
Here is the text of my emails.
_____________
Hello - I'm a new registered owner of Picnic 1.0.3
My MAJOR problem is as follows.
On my home wired network I have:
PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25GHz, 1.25GB RAM and OS X 10.4.10 (with the SOURCE FOLDER) and
Mac Pro Dual 2.0, 2GB RAM and OSX 10.4.10
I want to share a large folder that has all my downloaded installers - called "OS X" it is about 34GB in size.
The source folder has 509 items in it.
I've left both systems running Picnic overnight, checking the folder contents on a regular basis.
At one point the MacPro copy of the folder got to 420 items and seems to have stuck.
I have rebooted each system and left it for another 12 hours and nothing has changed.
When I look at the MacPro Picnic window it shows "OS X (qb@qbg4)" and the spinning icon in the upper right when I look at the Queue.
When I look at the G4 it has nothing in the upper right.
BOTH Queues are empty. I would have expected to see something in the queues.
BOTH Conflict windows are empty.
What is going wrong here???
thanks.
________
Since then I have tried a few more times and get frequent spinning-beach balls and have to force quit as the app is "not responding".
I cannot imagine this being any more stable on 10.5.
Caution: very unstable and unsupported EXPENSIVE application.
