Submerge ReviewGood overall, but sliding - Version: 1.8.1, 9/29/2009 01:50PM PST

POIKKEUS--2008
Through v. 7.1, Submerge was stable and effective, offering an easy-to-use subtitling application that could be adapted to anything from iPods to TVs. What's more, the price is right at $9.

The latest version, 1.8.1, has a few problems. The subtitles may appear in the very center of the screen, not the bottom like before. Processing clips isn't as smooth as past versions. Just as troubling, but for a different reason, customer service is never responded, or even acknowledged inquiries. Using their online support form was useless.

Submerge ReviewGreat - Version: 1.7, 4/27/2009 03:26AM PST

The best app of it's kind. i could not find anything better(maybe RoadMovie).

It would be great if a future soft render option will be added!

There are many font and encoding (more then enough languages) options.

A little slow but that's QuickTime!

I f you need your videos on almost any device then you should buy it.

I use this software for multiple tasks, like watching series with subtitles not sync, and obviously to export to my iPod movies with subs burned on it.
Keep up the good work!

Submerge ReviewThe Best Support i ever had in any program - Version: 1.3, 2/6/2008 12:00AM PST

This program is simply the best on the market . It is easy to use , fast and fun . What really makes it stand out so is the customer support . I had a problem with an srt file . I contacted customer support and received an answer within 2 hours . I was then told that it would be ok to send the srt file to them so they could have a look . Within another few hours i received a response back that the srt file had a lot of empty spaces . I thought that would be it BUT i also received the new beta of submerge that fixed the issue completely . NOW that is customer support , and all this was done in the time of less than ONE day .....AMAZING.If anybody is in need of a program like submerge i can only HIGHLY recommend it ..... Enjoy

Submerge Reviewspeedy, works, good customer support - Version: 1.3, 1/23/2008 12:00AM PST

This program is very simple and *very* fast. It did exactly what I needed, which was adding subtitles to a Quicktime movie, and did it in about 60 seconds --- which compares very favorably with the huge amounts of time various other programs seem to require for the same task.

I did run into a problem, which turned out to be the result of an improperly formatted .srt file at my end. It would have been nice if the program dealt with the problem more gracefully than just stalling and crashing on me! HOWEVER, when I contacted the developer, I received a response almost immediately, and after I sent him my subtitles file (at his request), he spotted the error right away, and I was in business. So I, for one, am very impressed with the support for this product.

Submerge ReviewPoor customer support - Version: 1.2.2, 12/21/2007 12:43PM PST

I purchased Submerged on December 5th. I had an avi movie that needed subs. I had the sub file in one of the recommended formats and tried the merge process. The program wouldn't do the subtitle merge and said the subtitle format was not recognized ??? I emailed the developer for help and advice. It has been two weeks with no response.

Submerge CommentaryProduct activation = no sale - Version: 1.2, 10/19/2007 05:13PM PST

Pres!
I literally had my credit card out to fork over the $9 until I ran across the mention on the author's support page that they used an activation system with their registration code. That was a dealbreaker for me. I'll buy software that has to phone home only when a) there's no competition whatsoever (like Adobe) b) the company is gigantic enough to likely be around in 20 years (like Adobe) and c) I don't mind having no warm feelings toward the company that by this system is treating me like a criminal (like...you know). I don't like anything that puts itself between the serial number I paid for, and my full use of the software. It just feels creepy.

The app itself I like quite a bit. It could use a few tweaks (like support for per-title italic tags rather than just a global italics setting for the entire movie, a bit more customizability for title placement on the image, and a WYSIWYG font selection system) but for $9 it's a steal.

If supporting the spread of software activation doesn't bother you, then I'd recommend Submerge since the software itself seems to be very well executed.

Sorry for the rant.

Submerge ReviewCrashes all the time - Version: 1.2, 10/17/2007 10:24AM PST

I'm using a G5 PPC with 10.4.9.
This software looks like a nice idea... if it could open films. Every time I try to import a film I get the spinning wheel and the program just gets blocked.
