Periscope ReviewPeriscope vs my old favorite EvoCam - Version: 1.5.1, 10/16/2007 09:24AM PST

Periscope set up to save photos to a folder and to email photos used about 8.5% of CPU (says Activity Monitor), while EvoCam set up to save photos to a folder used about 13.5% of CPU. Aluminum iMac 2.8 GHz, 4GB.

The Periscope interface, definitely more attractive, also seems easier to figure out than EvoCam's.

However, Periscope does not record movies, just photos.

For my purposes, mainly security using the motion detector to store or email photos, Periscope wins. I do not do FTP, so cannot comment on uploading. And I have not used the EvoCam record movie feature.

Periscope CommentaryPeriscope any good? CPU use? - Version: 1.0, 6/7/2007 09:07AM PST

At present I'm using EvoCam which is really cool, sets up so easily on a MacBook and uploads photos to my website every 30 seconds or so but my problem with EvoCam is that it eats up 76% of my CPU usage and the MacBook fan runs continuously when it is on. That's good, of course, but it is annoying. If Periscope works as well as EvoCam and uses less CPU then I'll switch.

Can someone using Periscope check their Activity Monitor (In your Utilities Folder) and see what percentage of CPU activity it is using and report that here?

Thanks

Periscope CommentaryWeb cams supported - Version: 1.0, 4/24/2007 11:49AM PST

It says on their web page that in addition to iSight 'other supported web cams'. I searched for but couldn't find supported other web cams. Anyone know? I use several different ones [with 'macam' for Skype and iChat] successfully. tia
