Linkinus ReviewDon't buy. It was promising but turned greedy. Bad customer support. - Version: 2.0.1, 7/10/2009 06:26AM PST

I was one of the first to try this application when it was in beta. then supported it when it came out. it showed a lot of promise. I decided to buy it hoping that there will be a fix for the flaws. instead, the linkinus team released the newer 2.0 and asked for an upgrade fee. that's less than a year from the purchase. an email to them shows that they don't care about their customers and will just want to make money. if you're going to buy this version, expect to pay more for future bug fixes and features. i'm switching to another irc application. one less customer that they have to care about.

I bought a license 2 month ago and now I'm forced tuo buy an upgrade license for version 2.x?

I got this as an answer from the developer: "You are not required to upgrade to 2.x at all."

I won't spend any money again on his app!

sorry, but this is not the way you treat clients after not updating your app for 1 year!

At least the developer could have mentioned that a new version ist coming out and that an update will be charged.

I purchased Linkinus because I liked the fact that it has a nice GUI and seemed like it had a lot of support.

Updates have stopped coming through and the latest version won't even register properly with the codes they sent me.

I emailed support and they re-sent my code and it still won't unlock the application. I emailed them again to point this out and they stopped responding to my emails. So even though I am a paying customer I cannot use their application.

Linkinus CommentaryStarted out with promise, but lacking progress now. - Version: 1.3, 4/22/2009 09:35AM PST

When Linkinus first came out, it all looked quite well, support was nice and quick, development reacted to problems and bugs nearly instantly and even included innovative new features.

But after some time, development slowed down, and after the 1.3 release in May 2008 it came to a stop, or so it seems. Blog updates were promised, but nothing happened, The 1.4 update's release has been moved forward and forward and forwand, until now there's not even an expected time of arrival anymore.
Additionally the public bugtracker has been shut down.
On the IRC channel there's talk they are working hard on the update, but that talk has been there for quite some time.

As it stands now, I can not recommend buying linkinus. Go ahead and try it out, but I wouln't advise on spending money on it until it's clear if and how it will move on.

Linkinus Reviewnot a good choice - Version: 1.3, 10/20/2008 08:23AM PST

This software has some nice features, but in the end is very unsatisfactory. Too many things are not customizable, some interface features are merely unintuitive and some others clumsy enough to be extremely frustrating and discouraging. The killer, though, is that any activity in a session sends CPU through the roof. This thing needs some interface adjustments and also some serious under the hood alterations for it to be a good client. Cannot recommend, although I hope these issues are successfully addressed because there are some good things here. (I had no problems staying connected, so a previous poster's experience could not be said to be universal and it does have options to auto-reconnect.)

Linkinus ReviewTerrible - Version: 1.2.1, 4/29/2008 10:11AM PST

Linkinus looks ace and probably should be your choice if all you want to do with your computer is IRC: it takes up more than 50% of CPU time in my system.

If, like most people, you cant to do other things at the same time with your computer, get something with a smaller footprint.

Looks great in screenshots, but try actually running it, and oh boy. Aside from the terrible networking code, they can't even get their views to draw themselves without constant white-outs and flickering. Smells like somebody's first Cocoa project.

IRC the Mac way - simple, elegant, functional.

I had problems which, with a couple of emails to support, were resolved. It turns out that the Logitech Control Center and all the bits it scatters around the system (daemons, InputManagers, etc.) caused the problem.

I nuked all vestiges of the Logitech software and now use USB Overdrive which is much more functional. I am now a very happy camper.

Linkinus CommentaryNot very usable - Version: 1.1, 9/22/2007 08:10PM PST

I had high hopes for this application, but I found it almost unusable. The preferences are a mess of options, there are about a dozen places to click that disconnect you from a server or channel. Linkinus also doesn't currently support fserv bots, which for me is a deal breaker. I'm used to IRC clients having confusing interfaces at first, but this is a bit ridiculous, especially for an app with a price tag.
