Product Description:

Raw Photo Processor (RPP) is a RAW converter, supporting almost all available digital RAW formats. Think of it as of a development machine in terms of film photography - first you have to develop your roll right, then do whatever you want with it. So this is NOT a full featured photo processing package, you will need Photoshop or some other tool to apply sharpness, cropping and so on, but you may use RPP for some very carefully picked amount of operations.

The main idea behind this application is to do quality conversion without blocking shadows, clipping highlights, spoiling colors and returning that natural film-like look to your pictures.

What's new in this version:

  • New features and bug fixes in 3.8.1:
  • Major change in colors rendition - should be more neutral and accurate. Affects all cameras.
  • Added new ability to quickly switch between current and previous image variants for donators. See "Workflow helpers" section in the manual.
  • Added option to disable automatic Apply (menu File) in all controls except button Apply and it's shortcut.
  • Initial support for Canon 5D Mark II.
  • Panasonic FX-150 support.
  • Rolled back cold-warm to previous implementation (as in 3.7.9 and before).
  • Bugfixes.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC

Am I missing something here? Why do I have to click the "Apply" button to see the results of each slider movement? Isn't there a way to make the adjustments appear in real time? If not, this app is a non-starter...takes an extraordinary amount of time to "tweak" a photo if I have to click Apply to see the results of every adjustment.

Also, why can't the result be saved in the Adobe publicly-available DNG format (Raw DNG as opposed to Linear DNG like DxO uses)? Smaller file size than 16-bit TIFF plus facilitates further work (if needed) in one of the Adobe products. Also allows import into Apple's Aperture 2.x (which doesn't presently recognize Linear DNG).

Raw Photo Processor CommentaryWhich version is this? - Version: 3.8.1, 11/17/2008 05:31AM PST

1. VersionTracker says this is RPP 3.8.2 but the link is to 3.8.1. Is there a version 3.8.2 that has been released?

2. Is it not possible to have the version number on downloads rather than just the name of the app? If the name includes the version number, we users won't have to be asked whether we want to replace the file since it already exists.
