TubeTV Troubleshooting ReportAlways Worked Great -- What Happened? - Version: 1.0, 7/27/2009 12:47PM PST

LOVE this app, have been using it for a couple of years, but all of a sudden it doesn't work for me. I get the download status window, it immediately tells me it's "finished downloading," but the saved .flv file is empty. What's up?

TubeTV ReviewNot Perfect, but Best Tool Out There - Version: 1.0, 1/4/2009 08:38PM PST

Best tool out there. Big problem is that it won't grab hi-def videos from youtube (a feature that launched since TubeTV's most recent release, so hopefully the dev is working on this).

Tabbed browser windows (or at least multiple browser pages) would be cool.

One good thing is that Safari tends to crash randomly playing flash video. I can use TubeTV to "protect" my Safari session. It almost never crashes.

Got a lot going for it, but some pretty big oversights in my opinion.
This is a browser by nature - not including tabbed window functionality, not even the ability to have multiple windows at once is almost a deal-breaker in itself.
Since this is also a download application, I'm surprised that there isn't an option to enable/disable/cancel automatic video loading in the browser. Presumably the purpose of this app is download whatever flash video that catches your eye so you can watch it later offline. When downloading multiple videos, being able to turn off the auto-load would certainly help bandwidth burden.
When downloading more than 4 videos at a time, errors continually occur to one or more of the downloads.
No ability to select individual videos in the progress window.

TubeTV ReviewGreat for YouTube to iPod videos! - Version: 1.0, 7/23/2008 11:32AM PST

This has a simple, elegant interface: You "grab" your current YouTube video (or browse just like Safari), download and convert, then put on your iPod. I am in old-music-video and international-fashion-show heaven.

This is one of the most useful apps I have--and it's free. (I like it so much, I donated).

TubeTV ReviewBrilliant - Version: 1.0, 5/10/2008 03:41PM PST

What could be simpler.
Open TubeTV, which is a web browser with the same guts as Safari.
Paste in the URL of a page containing a flash movie.
Click the flash movie to start playing it.
Now the download button becomes active; click it.
TubeTV downloads the flash video.
TubeTV converts that to a movie file suitable for for iPhone.
TubeTV opens the movie in iTunes.
Now I check the box in iTunes that says I want it on my iPhone for bedtime watching and sync.

Of course, you can choose a different conversion format and set other options.

I've been using TubeTV for a long time now and I (lazily, just now) donated! I collect a lot of software tutorial videos for reference purposes at university and TubeTV helps me keep them on CD or HD so I can access them whenever and where I choose without having to connect to the net and have the darn things reload. Having to realtime watch a feed is annoying especially if one is only interested in a certain section say in the middle!
Fabulous work by the Chimoosoft team. Many thanks from an EndUser who doesn't want to learn programming. May I also say that it's great to see a donation option instead of the usual limited use! Daring, but honest! 10/10.

TubeTV ReviewSplendid! - Version: 0.9.2, 12/11/2007 11:14AM PST

This is a wonderful program and I'm indebted to the developer for offering it to folks like me who tend to get a bit lost when it comes to converting videos. The people who objected to the 3 download limit obviously didn't check out the preferences. Up to 99 are allowed!

TubeTV ReviewGreat potential, but flawed - Version: 0.9.2, 11/9/2007 08:43AM PST

Central Scrutinizer--2008
It's great to be able to save flash video to my Mac, and it's a nice touch that TubeTV can automatically convert the video to mpeg4 after downloading. Unfortunately, I found a few problems with TubeTV.

First, the web browser is redundant. Why include it when I can use a real browser without any browsing limitations? And the search field for YouTube is also unnecessary, since I can just go to the YouTube website using my browser and search for videos (and open multiple videos in multiple browser tabs). A far better solution would be either a Safari add-on or standalone app that simply grabs flash videos from Safari and saves them on the local HD.

The real flaw with TubeTV is that it cannot "grab" flash video from the browser cache, not from Safari and not even from it's own browser! If I load a flash video in TubeTV's browser, view it, and decide I want to save it, TubeTV must download the entire video again. This is a waste of time and bandwidth, especially for dial-up users.

All in all, a nice little app. If it were shareware, I'd consider it's shortcomings a deal-breaker, but as freeware it's a welcome addition to my hard drive. Thanks!
