I can't get this program to work - every time I try to do something it quits. It looks promising but since I can't get it to work, I can't tell what it can do. The program I really like for this type of application is ApE (A Plasmid Editor): http://www.biology.utah.edu/jorgensen/wayned/ape/
Works great and it's very easy to use.

I (grudgingly) use Genome Construction Kit for constructing my plasmids, and in terms of looks, XPlasMap beats it hands down. The only thing GCK has over it is the automatic annotation functions (finding restriction sites, ORFs, etc.) If XPlasMap ever has those functions, it'll be a very solid competitor!
Good luck and keep up the good work.

This one seems not to display all the features of a plamid even when downloaded from Genbank as advised. Hard to edit, very labout intensive. Probably easier to draw a representation in Powerpoint!
The cutting and pasting of fragments is somewhat counterintuitive, no facility to easily have only commonly used restriction enzyme sites displayed. Doesn't display where gene features begin and end.
Sorry, but this one doesn't get my vote - better I think to beg for some commercial stuff.
