VMware Fusion CommentaryLatest VMware Fusion - Version: 3.0, 11/21/2009 05:07AM PST

heikot
I've loved versions 1-2 of this virtual machine software. Windows ran with blazing speed, all apps ran as expected and network drives/folders were accessible without issue. Well, all of this has changed with 3.0. Startup times are reminiscent of running Virtual PC - we all know what a disaster that was. I've lost connectivity to all of my network folders and some programs simply won't run. The overall system responsiveness is horrible. I would return this product in an instant, but as others have commented, finding where to get technical assistance or customer service is virtually impossible. I'm going to switch back to version 2 until VMware fusion 3 is stable, responsive and doesn't cause me more post-traumatic stress.

VMware Fusion Troubleshooting ReportBreaks Print Spooler in Boot Camp - Version: 3.0, 11/8/2009 01:57AM PST

satcomer
In Windows 7 64 Bit when I installed fusion 3.0 tools and then booted back into Boot Camp (to play a game & work site webmail) i discovered after installed the VMware Tools into Windows 7 the Print Spooler would not start, so I couldn't print the only fix was to go back into Snow Leopard and run Fusion, deinstalling the VMware tools (when finished with Fusion) to natively boot into Windows 7. I sure hope VMware fixes this Print Spooler issue.

VMware Fusion CommentaryPaid for Fusion Mac over year ago! Problem with Registration! Confused Upgrade Process! - Version: 3.0, 10/30/2009 08:49AM PST

Totally agree with reviewer below about the convoluted registration process at VMware Fusion site. I paid for Fusion Mac over a year ago. I had to call and call to get the registration working. Now, I have to call the vendor again to upgrade to Version 3. Takes too much time and energy - things I don't have in excess at this time. There has to be a better and much easier way to register, get your registration information, and to upgrade.

I also think there is a big problem just locating the correct product at the VMware site. There is too much information crowded together about their many offerings. I agree with the responder who suggested that they differentiate information for individual users, for SOHO users, and for corporate users. There is such too much packed together at this time to be effective!

I hope Fusion for Mac is all it has been reported to be! I sincerely hope it is NOT as confusing at the VMware website. Fusion may rate much higher but the VMware site gets less than a one-star rating at this time from me.

VMware, PLEASE CLEAN UP YOUR WEBSITE, REGISTRATION, UPGRADE, and SUPPORT PRESENTATION and PROCESSES.

VMware Fusion CommentaryRegistration and Updating process are a shame - Version: 3.0, 10/28/2009 02:15AM PST

I really like the product, just to say this first. But the company and its way of registering products and updating process are terrible. Not only does every small update require a registration at their site, but also they ask for detailed information that they really do not need to know. They should be happy to have customers buying their products, and appreciate them paying for updates, but instead they try everything to make you hate the company and the website. I have now filled in the forms on their update webpage hours ago - and did not even receive an email reply nor a download link for the product. Not to speak of the promo offer for version 2 only two weeks before version 3 came out as a to-pay-for update which makes me feel ripped off in the first place. Sorry guys, you make it easy to decide against your product, or for using it illegally. Because, you know, all your registration-stuff just pisses off the honest customer, but keeps NO-ONE from getting an illegal download. Don't ruin your own business if you want loyal customers.

VMware Fusion CommentaryMacFuse included Still 32-bit only! - Version: 3.0, 10/27/2009 01:26PM PST

The MacFuse optional-install included is still 32-bit only. One would think that VMWare would have contributed some engineering resources to get MacFuse upto 64-bit! :-(

VMware Fusion CommentaryGood upgrade software. - Version: 3.0, 10/27/2009 01:00PM PST

I am aware of the problems many users had and are still having to access the upgrade download page.
As I posted earlier this morning (EDT USA), I had no problem accessing the download page, log in, be recognized as being entitled to an upgrade ($40.00), paying on-line, and downloading the software.
After applying the upgrade, and entering the new registration code, I could launch Windows XP Pro SP3, where the VMware tools installation process was automatic. Improved performance of Windows.
Ditto with Linux Ubuntu 9.04 64bit. The Tools installation process was easier: Ubuntu downloaded the Tools software, and I had to proceed manually, as in previous instances.

In both virtual machines, the new Tool Bar, with Apple's colored wiedgets is a welcome graphical change.

VMware Fusion ReviewQuality update - Version: 3.0, 10/27/2009 12:47PM PST

I had no trouble downloading & installing this update. Didn't even mind having to pay for it.

Been using Fusion since version 1, and it's always worked great. I've got WinXP, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and a few linux virtual machines. Never had a problem.

Top quality software, unlike Parallels.

VMware Fusion CommentaryTrial download page - Version: 3.0, 10/27/2009 10:17AM PST

So their page for downloading the 3.0 trial asks how we're currently running Windows on our Macs -- and it doesn't offer Fusion as an option! (Parallels, Boot Camp, even Virtual PC, but not their own product.) Is this weird?
