Product Description:

VMware Fusion is the most seamless way to run Windows applications on your Mac. VMware Fusion combines a clean and intuitive Cocoa-native interface that Mac users expect with a virtual platform trusted by millions of users today. VMware Fusion allows you to launch your Windows applications from the Dock and switch between Windows and Mac applications using Expose. With the industry's most advanced virtualization technology VMware Fusion lets you leverage all the hardware available on your Mac to simultaneously run 32- and 64-bit operating systems, use two processor cores at the same time, run select 3D games and utilize USB 2.0 devices.

What's new in this version:

  • 1. When it launches, VMware Fusion 2.0 will be a free upgrade to all VMware Fusion 1.x users. This is as a sincere thank you to our early supporters who have partnered with us to make this product so great.
  • 2. VMware Fusion 2.0 Beta 1 offers first "true" multi-display support for virtual machines--your virtual machines will see as many individual Mac displays as you attach to your Mac (you have to see the demo video to believe it) [Video demo of multi-display: (http://youtube.com/watch?v=gREBVWUIqps) (this was my favorite one to make. Playing with a Mac Pro with four video cards is always good fun!]
  • 3. Next gen 3D acceleration: We up the ante with experimental support for DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 2. [Video demo of DirectX 9.0 Shader 2 3D: (http://youtube.com/watch?v=mCcyoHp9RIM)
  • 4. Dead Simple Switching to VMware Fusion: Integrated importation of Parallels Desktop and Virtual PC for Mac virtual machines. *And* integrated Boot Camp conversion, letting you take your Boot Camp from "physical to virtual" with a couple clicks. [Video demo of "Switch to Fusion (http://www.vmware.com/switchtofusion)" tools: (http://youtube.com/watch?v=j4RsFgPOPP0)
  • 5. Dozens of usability and general improvements: Easy virtual machine printing, totally re-designed Settings Editor, easier Shared Folders, and the list goes on and on.

VMware Fusion ReviewSweet! - Version: 2.0b1, 5/6/2008 06:51PM PST

Installed and played with VMWare Fusion 2.0b1 and love the way it works with spaces. I now have Fusion running full screen in one space and OS X in another space and (with Warp or shortcuts) I can seamlessly swap between the two. Perfect.

This beta is solid, fast, and kudos to the company for a free upgrade!
No lousy feature-creep, a la Parallels.
Just a solid, reliable and usable product.
Makes running Windows fun.
Yup, fun.

Go no further if you're looking for a non-Boot Camo VM.

VMware Fusion ReviewVMWare is hands down the best! - Version: 1.1.2, 5/6/2008 02:17PM PST

VMware is the best virtual machine for running Windows or linux, at least in my opinion and experience. I have used several of the others including Parallels and the recent freeware products and although Parallels was first to market and has similar features, it is still outdone by VMware fusion. This is huge considering Parallels is at version 3 and fusion is just now starting beta for 2.0. The stability factor versus Parallels was noticeable for me, with my system giving me an occasional kernel panic when Parallels was installed. The support for VMware is fantastic too and the fact that 2.0 will be a FREE upgrade is over the top and completely awesome!

As to the features of VMware, one of them that is awesome is the Unity mode which loses the windows desktop and puts a windows xp app along side the Mac apps. I realize that Parallels has something similar with Coherence mode but the VMWare implementation is far superior, as you do not have an ugly windows task bar by default. I think they improved that in version 3, but no need to use parallels for me as it just keeps getting better. There are plenty more great features too like full USB 2.0 support, the ability to assign multiple cpus, 3D graphics acceleration and more.

If you are looking for a way to run windows apps on an intel Mac, look no further you have found the best virtualization has to offer!
