Having researched all available options, this is the one that seems to suit most circumstances best. It's robust (not a whiff of any malfunction, bugs or instability), flexible (adapts to most situations - well), fully-featured (uses Google s/w and maps, loggers and logs) and very easy to use.

HoudahGeo has a simple and straightforward interface, works well with peripherals (eg a logger) and integrates perfectly with Aperture (2), for example.

It's very reasonably priced, technical support is outstanding (the developer goes to infinite lengths to answer questions and recommend solutions with great speed) and the overall look and feel of the s/w makes what could be a bit of a chore something you end up wanting to do.

HoudahGeo Commentaryv1.4.11 doesn't work with OS X 10.4.11 Tiger - Version: 1.4.11, 8/2/2008 12:25PM PST

I'm using OS X Tiger (10.4.11) and am unable to save HoudahGeo files with photos in them. (I can save empty files only.) I contacted the developer. His response: "I have confirmed that this is a memory management problem which shows only on Tiger. I am working to find a fix."

HoudahGeo ReviewEasy Way to Geocode Photos - Version: 1.2.8, 9/24/2007 06:32AM PST

I don't have a GPS camera. I've found that HoudahGeo is the easiest way to geocode photos. I run them through GeoHoudah before uploading to Flickr. HoudahGeo uploads to Flickr, but I use iPhoto and prefer FlickrExport because it sends my descriptions, titles, and keywords from iPhoto.

This is the best Geocoding program currently available. HoudahGeo works well and is easy to use.

I use it with a Garmin 60Cx, LoadMyTracks either a Canon SD700is or a Canon 20D, and Google Earth.

I've used both PhotoGPSEditor and GPSPhotoLinker, which are very good. However, they don't open Aperture or iPhoto Libraries - only image files (at least as far as I know). HoudahGeo will import photos from both Aperture and iPhoto Libraries and from files. There were problems at first but the developer was very responsive and has fixed everything I brought to his attention - within days. I think only two things are needed - the ability to change the data format (to match the GPS device) and being able to write EXIF data back to Aperture so it can be exported with the image. The developer is working on both. I'm buying HoudahGeo now.
