Product Description:

ForkLift is a powerful file transfer solution. It allows you to transfer files using FTP, SFTP, FXP, WebDAV, Amazon S3 and even Bluetooth. Its dual pane view maximizes productivity, a Cocoa based interface with smart preview and spring-loaded folders lets you browse your local and remote folders and use Favorites just like in Finder. Use it to edit files or preview images stored in a remote folder, even within archives. ForkLift integrates a full featured batch rename tool, an application deleter and a small code called droplet, which enables you to create automated upload shortcuts for your most used remote folders, and place them anywhere in your file system.

What's new in this version:

kay, so we were _almost_ there last time. Indeed, all seemed fine except for those hellish devices that use DHCAST128 key-exchange, which still refused to start working with ForkLift, even after the 1.7.6 release. Our first reaction was: Who needs those anyway? But that was only our irrepressible sense of humor butting in, of course, and finally, we did sit down to reviewing the many diagnostic reports you sent in and started coding like we're supposed to. So, we are now the proud owners (more like the proud authors) of a DHCAST128 module which we were generous enough to share with you in this 1.7.7 build. ForkLift 1.7.7 should now enable you, our esteemed users, to manage those network storages without any more problems.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

On the page here, there is still the $45 price tag given. Forklift actually is since July 1 only $20. So one more argument for it.

My task for the day(s) was to transfer about 6 GB of websites from one host to a new host. I dreaded the thought since my cable is slow uploading. I've actually owned ForkLift for a while, but had not used it until this task remembering it could be logged into two ftp sites at the same time within the split window. It is unfortunate that neither host supports the FXP protocol...

I did have some problems and was unable to tell if it was one of the hosts or my cable, which throttles uploads. Somewhere along the line FL did start crashing pretty far into a large transfer and I was having a dickens of a time managing which folders got updated and which didn't (the Sync Browsing really helped). I sent in a bug report and included the crash log file.

I was really surprised when someone wanted to iChat with me - someone I didn't know. Within a few lines I found it was Mudi from BinaryNights! Mudi provided a lot of suggestions and got me going - I was using a G4 and they had not fully tested the new version with one. The next day, Mudi contacted me again and said they found the bug after they setup a G4 and tested it themselves.

I'm an old Fetch guy, but I've switched to ForkLift as my primary ftp application, not only the unique features (today and for the future), but for the support.

Thanks!

Jim

This new beta is fantastic. The UI changed radically, is more streamlined, with a new tab implementation and added keyboard controls I've been hoping for. It just puts all my workflow together into a nice package.

The only thing that I'm missing from it is folder synchronization, though the developers have been promising that for a while. It would be great if I didn't have to start Transmit for synching anymore.

It might not be the cheapest software, but it's a sturdy peace of programming well worth its price.
Ah yes, and it beats every other FTP client I've tried in terms of speed.
