Seatubes Troubleshooting ReportWhen Seatubes Appears Not To work - Version: 1.2.5, 1/19/2009 08:38AM PST

zunipus
Now that version 1.2.5 has overcome the recent changes at YouTube (HURRAY FOR JOE!) there remains one problem that can make Seatubes appear not to work. This is when a video in a list you have created has either been yanked from the YouTube site (typically for copyright infringement) or it has a warning connected with it that requires some action before can view it. When Seatubes runs into one of these videos it simply stops. It gives no error message. It is up to you to figure out what is going on. Hopefully Joe will at least provide an error message when this occurs (hint hint).

Examples:

(1) I had a list of Appallin' Palin videos to laugh at in my old age. One of them was from Saturday Night Dead of Tina Fey's brilliant portrayal. I had saved the list then came back to it another day. During the duration, NBC had the video yanked because of copyright infringement. This video was at the top of my Seatubes list. So when I asked Seatubes to download the entire list, it did nothing. It just sat there. So I deleted the Tina Fey video and now the list worked fine.

(2) As a total Pink Floyd addict I wanted to download the orgy scene from the film Zabriskie Point. ;-) But darn! Seatubes was downloading a list for me then stopped dead at that video! So I copied out the URL from Seatubes then deleted it from the list, hit the Download button again and all was well. I then took the URL over to Firefox to use the DownloadHelper extension to grab it. Aha, "This video or group may contain content that is inappropriate for some users". So I hit the "Confirm Birth Date" button, up it came and the grabbing commenced, of the video that is.

Seatubes ReviewWorks great for me. - Version: 1.2.5, 1/18/2009 12:29PM PST

Joe contacted me with the new version. I downloaded it, then I successfully downloaded and converted two videos with it. I am glad to see that Joe has fixed it. It's just easier to use Seatubes to download and convert at the same time than to do both parts separately with other software.

Seatubes ReviewNo longer works - Version: 1.2.3, 12/23/2008 02:34PM PST

Seatubes is a wonderful program. Or at least it was. Apparently, Google changed something on the YouTube site to disable Seatubes. Consequently, the program no longer works. Seatubes' developer is aware of the problem & has made an effort to fix the program, but so far, has not been able to do so. The problem lies with Google. Unfortunately, the consequences fall upon Seatubes.

Seatubes CommentaryThe Last & The Future - Version: 1.2.3, 12/6/2008 03:56PM PST

The last actual version of Seatubes was v1.2.4. And no, it doesn't download videos any longer either.

I wrote Joe-The-Developer today to see if anything can be done. For now, this is abandonware that is also deadware. Well, except that it still has a GREAT talent for creating collections of YouTube URLs, which I may actually continue to use due to its sheer convenience.

Seatubes CommentaryWas a great product. - Version: 1.2.1, 11/17/2008 11:03PM PST

I really like Seatubes. Unfortunately, it is true that it no longer works... which is too bad. It did a beautiful job downloading a whole bunch of YouTube videos at one time.

I hope that a workaround is successful because I would love to use it again.

Seatubes ReviewTHIS DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE! - Version: 1.2.3, 11/6/2008 02:53PM PST

I just got this email from the outfit.

Unfortunately YouTube changed something on their end, just recently, and that broke the program. The problem is being investigated, but I think YouTube is trying to prevent users from downloading their files. Hopefully a workaround will be achieved.

But please note, however, that the utilities password I sent you activates all my utilities, and not just Seatubes (i.e. it's a "Utilities" password you registered for.) The utility software bundle is described here:

http://www.limit-point.com/Utilities.html

Thanks for understanding, and I am sorry for any inconvenience.

Ciao
Joe

I don't think I should have been the one to give this notice.

Seatubes ReviewNeeds work to be worth buying - Version: 1.1.5, 2/7/2008 12:00AM PST

I used Seatubes for the 8 day test period to download several videos from YouTube. It worked but not without flakiness and interface problems. The interface itself seems poorly thought out. Adding a URL is not intuitive and the buttons don't work as expected. Sometimes trying to import a single URL into Seatubes results in the application spontaneously importing a bunch of URLs that were not what I wanted. When closing the application it asks if I want to save the document "Untitled" even though the downloaded file has already been saved and is playable. There are too many rough edges and akwardnesses for it to be worth buying the application. For my use, TubeTV is a better product with a more intuitive and simpler interface.

YouTube appears to have switched from .FLV to .SWF
I could down load .FLV and convert using Flash Video Downloader
then EasyWMV to covert. So what is required for .SWF other than
full fledged Adobe/Macromedia Shockwave?

I've been using Seatubes for a bit now and find that it works very well. I do a lot of batch downloading from YouTube and very rarely run into a problem.

Seatubes is one program in the Utilities Bundle. When you donate you receive a password which unlocks all the software indefinitely (not just Seatubes,) including free upgrades to all.
