Product Description:

Do you have an old iPod lying around? Or perhaps a small portable hard drive or flash drive? Why not turn it into the ultimate Macintosh diagnostic, repair, and maintenance tool? With TechTool Protogo it's easy. Protogo allows you to quickly create a bootable diagnostic device that contains Micromat's most powerful tools as well as any of your own utilities you may wish to install. You can then use this device to boot, check, maintain, and repair Macintosh computers as needed. Like our award-winning product, TechTool Protege, you will have a device that allows you to carry all the tools you'll need in your shirt pocket. But unlike Protege, you'll have plenty of space left over for a multitude of additional utilities as well as ample drive space when you need to recover data.

What's new in this version:

  • Added ability to use iPod as a music player.
  • Added a Stop button to TechTool Protogo device creation.
  • Added application drag and drop to the Profile configuration window.
  • Added Check for Update feature.
  • Updated TechTool Protogo Help file.

TechTool Protogo ReviewLeopard Compatible? Sort of .... - Version: 1.1.1, 7/26/2008 12:22PM PST

This claims to be Leopard compatible. You can RUN the app on a Leopard system and create images while doing so. However the image that is created is only v10.4.9 of the OS (Panther). Plus, the version of Disk Utility that it puts on the partitions it creates is v10.5.8, which is also a Panther version.

I don't have one of the most recent iMacs or MB Pros ti test on, but I would imagine that the newer Macs which can ONLY boot under Leopard, could not be booted from the images this tool makes.

I great idea and concept, but not implemented as well is it could be.

Micromat over charges their customers for upgrades. I purchased Protogo last year and it wouldn't work with my new Mac computer. Micromat customer service talked me into keeping Protogo because an update was just around the corner. Two months later when Protogo update was finally released they expected me to pay $25.00 for the upgrade. I was so pissed, good think I kept the correspondence or I would have been screwed. They charge $99.00 for a yearly upgrade service. Never Again will I buy any of their products. Diskwarrior is the best HD Utility available!
