This software remotely controls most functions of Nikon digital SLRs from a computer that is connected via USB cable or though wired or wireless LAN using a wireless transmitter. Advanced functions of the new D3 and D300 such as the Viewer for preview and selection o images prior to transferto a computer, LiveView function and PictureControl System are supported. It also supports the workflow of Nikon's exclusive photofinishing software Capture NX (optional) and the browser and viewer software View NX.

Compatible with new functions of the Nikon D3 / D300

Images in a camera buffer can be confirmed with thumbnail or preview display on a computer prior to transferring, enabling deletion of unnecessary images. This remarkably increases efficiency.
Supporting the Liveview Mode (Hand-held mode and Tripod mode) of the D3 and D300, it permits adjustment of focus point an shutter releasewhile confiming the image on a computer. In Tripod Mode, focal-plane contrast AF on a desired point within a specific area is possible.
It also supports Picture Control System of the cameras. Picture Control parameters can be selected and adjusted on a computer, and custom curves (tone compensation data) can be created and registered.
51-point AF can be controlled and displayed.
Fine tuning of the new White Balance is available.

Great for extended time lapse sequences... - Version: 2.3.0, 11/3/2008 11:11AM PST

I use Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 primarily to shoot time lapse sequences that take longer than 3-4 hours. I have no complains about the Nikon Camera Control software (been using Nikon software since Nikon Capture 4).

The one pet peeve I have is the Nikon updating function that is built into the Camera Control Pro 2. When I check through the Nikon software, it says all my software is up to date even though it is not. This has been an issue since the early days of Nikon's Capture/Camera control software. If it wasn't for sites like Version Tracker, I would not be informed of any Nikon software updates.

This update is supposed to be available through the Nikon Message Center (the standard path for updates for Camera Control Pro), but it has failed repeatedly for me by simply hanging up and never completing. I decided to try to link here and the download started, but was extraordinarily slow (the browser reports 11-17 kbytes/sec) and finally gave out at about 7.2 Mb rather than the complete 28-29 Mbytes.

I'm not sure if there is an issue with Nikon's servers, but for now I am unable to download the update.

This version has been available on the Nikon site for about 3 weeks. I know because I delayed purchasing my D3 until Nikon came up with a version of CCP2 that worked under Leopard, and I've had the camera for about 3 weeks. Both the program and the camera work fine for me.

Had a discussion in January with a Nikon tech rep who told me that Nikon takes so long to respond to new OSes because "their team goes out and buys a new OS the day the Apple releases it". I suggested that they should participate in Apple's developer program so they would get pre-release copies and could start earlier. He assured me that there was no such program...
