Spanning Sync ReviewWARNING - Will not uninstall completely! - Version: 2.1.1, 3/1/2009 08:44PM PST

rodentking
Did not work all that well. The big problem came when I wanted to remove it. The uninstaller leaves the Spanning Sync icon in the system preferences. When you click on it, you get Preferences Error: "You cannot open Spanning Sync preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac". Searching on Spanning finds no files to delete.

And the final straw, there is no email link to ask questions at the site. Just useless FAQs.

Spanning Sync Commentarywanted to sync between macs - Version: 2.0b354, 9/10/2008 10:43AM PST

I was hoping to find a solution to sync between several macs and not buy OSXS for this need. Syncing to Google was an option, but I'm getting more leary of using Google for all things. This package seems great for a one-up solution, but I settled on BusySync instead.

Probably would have gone with this if I could somehow sync addressbooks, too. Just some food for thought for the developer. Syncing not just calendars, but addy books would be choice. Or maybe sharing addy books, rather than syncing, in some fashion.

Spanning Sync CommentaryMay no longer be necessary - Version: 2.0b353, 9/7/2008 08:54PM PST

Now that Google Calendar supports CalDAV - a calendar sharing protocol that iCal supports out of the box - these sorts of programs are probably unnecessary for most people. You can just use iCal to directly access your Google calendar, including adding, modifying, and deleting events.

Before spending money on a synchronization program, take a look at Google's how-to regarding setting up iCal for use with Google Calendar. That may be all you need.
