You must be joking about MacAstronomica - Version: 1.2.2, 2/23/2008 07:03PM PST

For MacAstronomica, last update was "Panther." Yeah - I guess if you are still living in the dark ages you might like MacAstronomica better.

but bad realisation, compared to MacAstronomica.
used it twice, and then trashed it and got back to MacAstronomica

Great idea but an annoying widget. It's now in the trash.

Two points... - Version: 1.2, 8/1/2007 04:51PM PST
Ordinary Guy
First, while this is supposedly v1.2, it keeps downloading and installing v1.1. That's a bit frustrating.
Second, while I enter my zip code and it goes to the right place, it inevitably resets every time the widgets are started. That's a bit frustrating too. I actually own the main Starry Night program, and I use it on occasion, but this widget would be a handy quick reference... about what a widget is supposed to do. It's too bad there is such an aggravation factor built into it.

This version does not express my prefs, even though they are retained in info until I look in info and click "DONE". I could be wrong, but didn't v1.0 keep and express on opening, location, horizon and direction settings?
Also, to be honest, I had not noticed the banner until I read the comments just now. (But then, I don't notice commercials on TV except to mute the volume when they get too loud.)

...boo, hiss, catcalls and thumbs down. Version 1.0 was a fine widget, the centerpiece of my dashboard. Version 1.0 is now disabled and forces users to upgrade to version 1.1 if they want to continuing using the widget. Disregarding its bugginess, version 1.1 is an affront to the user with its distracting ticker-tape style banner which, under the guise of reporting news items, is interspersed with lots of advertisements and no option to turn it off (for which even a reasonable fee would be acceptable). Two news items, one plug from the Starry Night Store. As a registered user of Starry Night Pro and Starry Night Digital, it is very disappointing to see this display of blatant greed - shame on Imaginova.
In consideration of the incessant bombardment with advertising everywhere on the net, this company could have done more for their image if they would have respected the basic freeware and free-of-advertising character of dashboard widgets. dh

On my 10.4.9 system it's very buggy. It shows the sky for a second, then goes grey... it tries to refresh the view or something and just hangs there. It will come up a random amount of time later, but then it greys out again in a very short time. It's basically unusable.
Also, I can find no way to change view elevation... The impressive "screenshots" on the website seem to be impossible to actually reproduce.
Not that I want to seem to whine, because it's a very cool idea, but needs some work. The price is certainly right! I use StarryNight Pro quite a bit, and it's pretty good.
BTW, for you disgruntled Saxons etc. The full version is the same. It comes up with the same sorts of annoying names for places. I doubt that they really need the city names database to be precise to 9 places, but that's the way it is. At least in the full version you can edit the name so it stops annoying you.
Not everything from over here, especially from Canada, is part of an evil plot by the current alarming Imperium in the US, so chill out!
