River ReviewStill not worth $5 - Version: 1.6, 6/13/2008 09:07AM PST

I've been using River for over a year now. It's improved over earlier versions but it'st still a "proof of concept".

It still doesn't use the default browser and only uses Safari.

It still doesn't open the sites in tabs for browsers that support tabbed sites (most do now).

It still doesn't allow you to set what sites you want checked in a preferences file.

It's really a jacket for an Applescript to go to a list of sites in Safari and open them with a search option. Some of the sites on the list are closed and require membership in order to search their archives.

Again, still not worth it.

When I first started running this app, I thought cool it's going to all the torrent sites that I don't even know about and putting them into tabs (R.I.P. demonoid.com).

Then saw that it hijacked Safari when I use FireFox, that sucked. There are no prefs to change that. Then as I clicked on the tabs most of the sites were bullshit trying to put spyware and viruses on my computer by popping up alerts asking to scan your browser, I had to force quit Safari.

There is NO WAY this is usable in this condition.

What I would like to see you do to this is. Make it to where WE pick the browser to use, and WE pick what torrent sites we want from a list (even a Readme) to make sure they aren't bullshit if you don't want to take the time yourself to research the sites to protect us from bullshit or spyware, because most up the sites that popped up in dozens of tapes were crap.

Then this would be worth buying for like 5.00.

These 5 star boys are having a knee jerk reaction.

I REALLY want this app to be the best that it can be.
