Product Description:

Think is a cleverly streamlined application to shift your workflow from overwhelming to under-control with just the flick of a mouse. Think allows users to "illuminate" any Mac OS X application they'd like, blocking distractions from other windows and applications, so that they can focus on the task at hand. Since many work projects require multiple applications, Think also allows guest applications to be temporarily brought forward, and when no longer needed, quickly hides them away.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixes an issue that prevented the control panel from fading up under Leopard
  • Fixes a potential crash that we don't think anyone's ever even seen big_smile
  • Adds three hidden preferences for you, the viewer at home
  • New Hidden Preferences for Advanced Users
  • So what are these new hidden preferences? A few people have asked for the ability to dim the control panel further or remove it entirely. We didn't want to add any UI to the application, so we've implemented some settings for those advanced users who want to play around with the control panel.
  • Let's talk about them for a moment. Each preference can be edited with the Terminal application.
  • alphaValueActive - Determines the opacity of the control panel when the mouse cursor is over the control panel. This value can be between 0.0 and 1.0. Any value above 1.0 or below 0.0 will be treated as 1.0.
  • The default alphaValueActive value is 1.0.
  • alphaValueInactive - Determines the opacity of the control panel when the mouse cursor is outside the control panel. This value can be between 0.0 and 1.0. Any value below 0.0 will be treated as 0.15, while any value greater than 1.0 will be treated as 1.0.
  • The default alphaValueInactive value is 0.15.
  • An example of how you might use this value is setting it to 0.0, which will make the control panel completely invisible when not hovering the mouse cursor directly over it. This way, you can hide the panel completely but still use it when you need to. (Provided you don't forget where you put it. If you have, click Think's icon in the Dock.)
  • controlPanelPersistent - Determines whether or not the control panel exists at all when Think is not the active application. The possible values for this setting are YES and NO. When set to NO, the control panel will only appear on the screen when the illumination panel is visible. At all other times, the control panel will be removed from the screen and will not appear when hovered over.
  • The default controlPanelPersistent is YES.

Think ReviewGreat utility! - Version: 1.2, 9/13/2008 01:48PM PST

Files and other open windows can definitely be a distraction, especially on laptop computers. I don't know what the one-star reviews are talking about.... Think is intuitive and very simple to use.

Think ReviewGood idea, complicated implementation - Version: 1.2, 4/11/2008 08:24AM PST

We all know how to switch apps: cmd-tab, dock, exposé. A background-hiding app would be a very simple thing: just hide the background, maybe provide a shortcut to turn itself on and off. Easy, right?

Unfortunately, what this app does is to unecessarily introduce 4 special concepts ("illuminate, raise, guest, refocus") and 3 very illogical keycommands (some use cmd-option, some use cmd-control). And then it adds a 8-page pdf to explain everything.

Dear Freeverse, thanks for providing us with something free, but would you mind also make it - you know - easy? Thanks!

looks like a lot of hoopla for something really simple. Too much work to use the interface. There ought to be a better way to implement a feature like this without having to "think" about it, like a prefpane.
