MyMenuDate ReviewIt's good, but... - Version: 2.4, 12/15/2007 09:59AM PST

...not brilliant. I don't wish to sound like a moaning minnie, but I've been looking for a utility that would just allow a little customisation of the built-in clock. This was close, but no cigar unfortunately. These are my reasons for deciding not to use it:

1. Clicking on the clock to make it drop down is very difficult - it doesn't seem to work as a menubar item should, nor does it highlight properly. If it were somehow integrated with the main OS one, it would have worked better.
2. It's a shame it's an app instead of a prefpane - I think a prefpane would have been more appropriate.
3. Size is not very accurate. I was hoping for something about 1-2 point sizes smaller than the OSX menu clock, but all I can have in that range is Normal (too big) or Tiny (too small).

If none of these things concern you, then overall it is a decent solid piece of software with lots of customisation options.

Just follow this info to do it yourself

http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2212/os_x_display_date_menu_bar

I do agree though that Apple should have this option by default anyway. This app makes life easier and has a nice colour and font option, if you dont mind 'having a fiddle' just follow the link above.

Your other free option is to try this:

Also has a great tear off calendar built into it.

Why in the world Apple didn't do this is beyond me. They spend all that time and money on eye candy, and overlook the simplest of features. A cheap watch would tell you this much, you'd expect a little better when you pay so much for a computer. This is a great-and much needed program. Now, if I can just figure out hoe to get Apple's useless clock off the screen...
