Product Description:

CreateDiskImage is an Applescript droplet that lets you easily create highly compressed disk images without the need to go through Apples Disk Utility application, by using "Drag & Drop". Simply drop any folder or file to this Applescript droplet, and it will create a compressed disk image which contains the dropped file or the contents of the dropped folder.

Features:
- Easily creates compressed disk images from dropped files and folders
- Supports drag & drop of multiple files
- Uses highest compression rate, as opposed to Apple's Disk Utility which uses medium compression rate
- When finished, a dialogue tells whether the creation process was successful

Restrictions:
- No progress dialogue is shown during the disk image creation process
- To create a disk image out of a dropped file, that file will be copied to a temporary location first (i.e.: "$HOME/.tmp/")

CreateDiskImage CommentaryBootable? - Version: 1.0, 1/21/2007 08:35AM PST

One use I have for disk image files is backing up bootable CD/DVDs that I purchase. For the obvious reason of being able to create a bootable disc should something bad happening to the original (most of these are of the disk utility kind and thus absolutely critical in that there's no time to try and figure out if or how to replace the disc, a process that can take days).

Will this utility create a dmg of a bootable disc that when burned to a recordable will still be bootable?
