i've been writing for a living for a long time. and i've lost count of all the word processors and more specialized writing apps i've tried--and been disappointed with--over the years. but my search for the perfect workhorse is finally over. scrivener *really* works.

There are people who switch to Macs just to use Scrivener--it's just that good. The creator is a writer and knows what writers need. Most important of all, he knows how to create an application that meets those needs.
Scrivener is powerful and flexible. Nine times out of ten, when I come up with something that Scrivener ought to do, I find that it already has that feature ready and waiting. It's easy to use, but has the power to grow as your project gets more complex. Whatever your writing style, it will adapt to it. If you like to start with a broad outline and fill in the details later, it will handle that. If you get flashes of inspiration, but are uncertain where they'll end up, it will handle that too. Just create a document for your idea and decide where it goes later.
If you decide to radically alter what you're doing, you can save a snapshot, and revert back to it if you change your mind. And whatever you're doing from novels to technical documents, rearranging content is as easy as drag and drop Try doing that in Microsoft Word. There's also a full-screen mode that lets you eliminate everything from view but the words.
