Snow Leopard and QT X has cause problems - Version: 3.3.2, 9/23/2009 11:16AM PST

This software worked like a charm, till I installed Snow Leopard with QT X on my MBP(oct08).
Now the preview images will not show up. After visiting the Many Tricks web site and finding their user forum not working, and not able to contact any one at Many Tricks. I feel I must give this warning. Under 10.5 works great 5 Stars, under 10.6 not so good. Plus concerned that this product and other products from Many Tricks may not be supported any more.

yFlicks: definitely the iPhoto for Video!

FINALLY, verison 3.0 definitely has improved over past versions. Now the startup is very fast, and everything can be configured to your liking! I'm currently in demo mode but will definitely be buying! The interface is intuitive, and it makes organizing my videos much easier than having it all sporadically laid out in folders with no ability to quickly preview them in big thumbnails....
So awesome! except…

A recent addition to this little app nearly had me hook, line & sinker. The Apple Remote integration is just what I needed. For whatever reason, Apple's FrontRow capabilities for accessing "sets" or "playlists" of videos is zilch, as far as I can tell it just groups every single video file into one big blob. Enter YFlicks, Yay!
or at least almost.
My biggest gripe with YFlicks is that it beachballs (sbod) on me after every adjustment, tweak, or file organization I make. And I mean EVERY time (on all of our Macs):
SBOD Insanity
• YFlicks startup = 60-240 seconds every time
• I hit ⌘N to create a new folder = 20-45 second sbod before the folder shows in the navpan (every time.
• Initiate (click) the renaming of a folder = 5–20 second sbod, every time.
• Immediately following the renaming of a folder = 50–80 second sbod after every single rename.
• Move (drag) a folder to a new location or level in the hierarchy = 60–180 second sbod, every time.
• Adding video files to a folder = 120-180 second sbods.
To compound these frustrating wait times, there exists a set of small but equally frustrating YFlicks nuances that turn me off. The process of creating and organizing hierarchies inside of YFlicks, while by itself is only a small annoyance, often requires unecessary steps that consist of the aforementioned sbod triggers. (Ahhhhh!)
e.g. After creating a new folder (20secs), the name field of the new folder doesn't activate the name field by automatically focusing the name as a selection. A step in the right direction is the fact that you can hit the Enter key to edit the name field, but again, why not just focus the new field upon creation?
It would also be nice not to have to remove hands from the keyboard in order to drag and drop new groups into lower level hierarchies (60secs). Instead (a la itunes), upon hitting ⌘N, it would be nice if a new group/folder was created underneath the selected, existing group/folder.
One more little one, any reason why empty folders exhibit a disclosure arrow?
I hope YFlicks is optimized in the future, such an advance would keep it in serious running for adoption!

iTunes for Movies

This app is fantastic - I'm using it to view computer tutorials, and being able to have this app remember where you left off, and automatically move to the next movie in a folder is a godsend. The integration of the Apple remote is great, and having my movie folder organised as easily as iTunes is great as well.
This app looks and feels like a solid Apple app - and even the preferences have been logically thought out. For £10 it was a bargain (shame I missed it on MacZot for even less last week!).
I've not written a review on VersionTracker before, but this app is so useful, I thought I'd share my love for it.
One word of warning - I can't seem to get YouTube videos to play after they are downloaded via yFlicks. Far from a deal breaker, and it may be something I'm doing wrong. For all my other movies (.MOV, .AVI) it plays perfectly.

small bug fix - Version: 1.1, 4/24/2007 01:15AM PST

There was a small typo in the original source code for yFlicks 1.1 that prevented you from deleting groups. Just download yFlicks 1.1 once more if you're experiencing this problem.
So far so good

I've beeen looking for a replacement for iVideo and iFlicks. I hope development for this program continues.
iTunes just doesn't cut it. It won't play my AVIs and such, and it won't let me store my videos on multiple drives.
With Perian, yFlicks will play just about everything I have.
This is a nice little program for such a new release. I hope it keeps getting better and better.

Finally, an application to take place of iVideo.
Just one small feature:
the ability to move the location of your database (and also allowing multiple databases)
otherwise, looks good! :)
REAL PLAYER support would be good too, but not priority :P

No fine stars till they get back on board and support their customers.
