Product Description:

Computer Glasses lets you magnify a portion of the screen to read fine print or magnify an image. When you open Computer Glasses, you see a red circle. Click on the circle (magnifier) and drag it over the area to be magnified. As you drag the magnifier, you will see crosshairs. When you release the mouse, the area inside the area within the circle will be magnified. A small control panel lets you turn the magnifier on/off, select the magnifier shape (Rectangle or Circle) and change the magnification (Slight, Medium, Larger and Largest). You can shrink the control panel, move it out of the way on the desktop or minimize it to the Dock. You can close Computer Glasses by clicking on the control panel's (red) close button. The location of the control panel, the magnifier shape, and the magnification setting are saved between sessions.

What's new in this version:

Version 1.3.1 improves compatibility with Leopard. Version 1.3.0 lets you minimize the Control Panel to the Dock, and show the magnification shape automatically (if hidden) when the Control Panel is restored. This change is intended to help a presenter using Computer Glasses.

Computer Glasses CommentaryMore nice but not needed - Version: 1.3.0, 3/14/2007 03:39PM PST

In addition to Argyll's tip which only works in later versions of 10.4, zooming with the keyboard has been in OS X since version 10.2 (maybe even 10.1...I can't remember for sure). After using the Universal Access preference pane or the command-option-8 keyboard shortcut to turn the feature on, users can zoom in and out using command-option-= (I usually think of it as plus) for zooming in and command-option-minus for zooming out. The zoom follows the mouse cursor and can be used variably up to (I think) 20 times magnification. There are several options in the preference pane for controlling aspects of the zoom as well.

Computer Glasses is nice, but I just can't think of a situation where it would be more useful than the built-in zoom other than possibly for a screen shot where the whole screen was wanted.

Computer Glasses CommentaryGreat for my needs! - Version: 1.2.0, 1/15/2007 12:40AM PST

As a composer/arranger I have to setup big scores, up to 64 staves per page. So this will sometimes reduce the music down under 40 %. For fine print and to clean up some collisions this is a big help. Moreover for my eyes are getting touched by a thrombosis.
Especially the new rectangle in this version is very welcome.
Thank you very much!

While the younger generation of computer users may not fully appreciate the benefits of using this little app, as it has already been stated, those of us who are past our prime, and who have poor vision or other eye-related maladies, most certainly do. Myself, whenever I am web surfing reading the news, I always hit the "Make Text Bigger" keys (command +) in Safari twice, because my eyes start to burn after a short time reading articles in standard web-sized fonts. So again, thanks for this app. I have to admit though, I never knew about the control + scroll wheel command until today when I read the comments here. So thanks for that as well.
