Product Description:

The SigAlert Traffic Maps widget allows you to get the latest traffic maps for your local freeway traffic.

  • Using the maps from SigAlert.com, the following cities/regions are currently supported:
    • Inland Empire (San Bernardino)
    • Los Angeles (greater LA, West LA, and East LA)
    • Orange County
    • Phoenix
    • Sacramento
    • San Diego
    • San Francisco
    • Ventura
  • The widget can be resized and allows panning of the map so that you can focus on the data you are interested in (settings will be stored for each instance of the widget).
  • Pointing the mouse over any speed dot or incident icon will display a popup with additional details - pointing the map over a camera icon will display a live traffic camera picture from that location.
  • Double-clicking the map will open the corresponding full map in your browser
  • The current speeds and incident reports will be updated every 60 seconds when the Dashboard is showing.

What's new in this version:

  • Optimize network traffic and CPU usage on reload - don't reload the map overlay or recalculate the mouseover map if the speed and incident data have not changed since the last refresh.
  • Properly rescale live camera pictures if the widget is displayed with a wide aspect ratio.
  • Correct auto-hiding behavior of the detail popup: it will now auto-hide after a a period of time (5s for speed data, 10s for incident details, and 30s for live camera pictures), when clicking any icon on the map or the popup itself, or when moving out of the widget. This should make it possible to actually use the scrollbar on long incident reports.
  • Correct automatic reloading when the widget is active so that it won't happen more often than it is supposed to.
  • Add a "Loading Image…" background text while loading live camera pictures so we get some feedback on slower connections.
  • Work around a bug in Dashboard which would cause the bottom of the widget not to redraw properly when shrinking it exactly vertically.
  • Work around a redraw bug in Dashboard which would make the back not show completely until the widget was moved when the front was resized to be smaller than the default size.

SigAlert Traffic Maps CommentaryThis version DOES NOT WORK AT ALL - Version: 2.0.2, 5/9/2009 05:10PM PST

When you download this version to an Intel Core2Duo Unibody Aluminum MacBook (the latest version, released November 2008) running Mac OS 10.5.6, nothing happens -- the normal OS X automatic widget installer does not startup and attempt to install the widget as usual because, of course, it is a .zip file. So, you double-click the SigAlert.wdgt.zip file and you get a normal looking SigAlert.wdgt file, but still the OS X automatic widget installer does not appear! So, naturally you double-click the widget, expecting it to auto-install, but instead you get a message that says "The file "SigAlert.wdgt" is not a valid widget and you cannot install it."

I tried downloading it from MacUpdate.com and VersionTracker.com, but had the same results. I have used this widget for a couple of years, and I always updated it with no problem when new versions appeared. But this time it just won't work.

This widget just keeps getting better. I've been using an older version of this for quite a while now, this new version adds to the functionality. The new look is easy to understand, it's much easier to focus on a particular area of interest. Nice widget.
