Not only is the download 3.0, instead of 3.1, the developer is MIA.
Panergy Software site is off-line.
Hmmm

In Leopard TextEdit can open a Word 2007 .docx.zip file and save it as Word 97, Word 2003 or back as a Word 2007 dcox file.

docXConverter CommentaryBetter than Microsoft's beta converter... - Version: 1.3, 5/18/2007 05:21PM PST

The following is from the M$ converter page:

The following issues might occur in this Beta release:

Graphics and other objects in the document might appear with a different size.
Color fills and shading in tables might not be preserved.
Conversion might not succeed if the document contains a bibliography or citations.
Conversion might not succeed if the document contains WordArt.
Document layout and formatting might not be preserved.
Some Unicode characters might not be preserved.
Conversion might not succeed if the document contains very large pictures.
Conversion might not succeed if you use an SMB network volume as the preferred destination for converted files.
Picture bullets might not be preserved.
Fonts might be substituted.

So, IMHO docXconverter does a better job.

http://blogs.msdn.com/macmojo/archive/2007/05/15/get-converted.aspx

"This is a stand-alone Macintosh application that converts .docx documents - that is, documents saved by Word 2007 for Windows in the Office Open XML file format - into rich text format (RTF) documents so that they can be automatically opened in either Word 2004 or Word v.X for Mac OS X.

With this free converter we passionately want to get you up and reading the new documents you are receiving."

docXConverter CommentaryTry Neo Office - Version: 1.3, 5/18/2007 10:11AM PST

So far, Neo Office (free) has been able to open these Word files and save them in other formats. I'm not certain, therefore, of what advantage this program would have over the free Neo Office.

Got an attachment I could not read so I gave docXConverter a try.
It worked perfect. The document opened in my WP and even the formating showed OK.
Great Idea ! It will become escential in the future when MS begins selling their new Word 2007 to the public.
And for only $20.

This is a great idea, but I think MicroSoft should take care of this or we don't buy/hack their products. An application should play nice with others or it should be sent for a time out.
