Annotation Edit is designed to give production houses and eLearning environments a smooth subtitle workflow for Apple DVD Studio Pro / Final Cut Pro, QuickTime WebTV and broadcast.

What's new in this version:
- Final Cut export: Added import of subtitle settings from Final Cut XML. This applies to our subtitle plugin and partly to standard outline text.
- Added export of multiple selected tracks for all self-containing file formats.
- Added Apply track offset and program start to multiple selected tracks.
- Annotation Transcriber import: added alignment, italics and revision mark style.
- RTF with time-code import/export,: added alignment, italics and revision mark.style.
- Import of partial italic emphasis: EBU STL, SRT, DVD Studio Pro STL, DVD Studio Pro track item description, Lemony 4, RTF with time-code,. Annotation Transcriber.
- Includes Annotation Transcriber 1.5.1.
- Exchange of time-code offset and time-base with Annotation Transcriber.
- Updated native frame-rate read-out to latest QuickTime version.
- More file formats that may occur in NDF will be imported according to NDF preference.
- DVDSP/SCC import: Added option to interpret track offset according to currently selected track.
- Removed "Guess offset".
- SCC import: Support of more SCC dialects.
- Revised SCC closed caption import and "SCC Export Test".
- STL EBU import: "Double Height" vertical line adjustment.
- STL EBU export: Corrected vertical centered alignment.
- Text import with duration calculation: the minimum duration is 1 second now.
- Adjust Duration: Subtitle duration is extended according to minimum settings. Use "Adjust CPS " in the processing to allow shortening.
- Processing Pane: Enhanced validation.
- Preference Pane: Revised "General Preference"s.
- Fix Final Cut export:: Corrected an issue that could render value displays transparent in English localization on Leopard 10.5.6.
- Fix: Corrected an issue that value fields could be rendered invisible on Mac OS 10.6 in Englidh version of Final Cut export plugin.
- Fix: Text without time-code as doc or rtf.
- Fix: "Adjust Duration" was linked to "Toggle Marked.".
- Replaces version 1.7.2.
- Polishes.

I make Blu-ray titles. We export EBU stl, and have been very pleased that the only adjustments necessary prior to final rendering have been to manually insert the "partial italics". We just finished a major project, and were very happy; but now, the new version would have saved us a couple of hours or more, by importing partial italics automatically. Thank you, Annotation Edit.

The one weakness that existed in Annotation was that it wouldn't italicize a single word in a Blu-ray title -- like a book title or a ship's name, or the like. This version fixes that. I can't think of a single feature now it doesn't have. Again, the production industry should definitely pay attention to this fast-rising application.

I expressed some hesitation about this package when I first wrote about it, but its steady development, and my growing understanding of the sometimes unconventional way that it works, particularly for title creation, have erased any doubts I had. The Blu-ray plugin, for example, is a plain winner, besting software packages that you pay a lot more for. You can create 32-bit subtitles with alpha channel, and two different sorts of 8-bit titles that work with Scenarist. There's a preview, so you can see exactly what your type will look like.
For many, many uses, you get more from this program than you do from programs that sell for tens of thousands more. Having used a number of software packages out there now, I can recommend this program whole-heartedly. It continues getting better and better. Buy it now before the price goes up!
