podUp Commentaryworks well, but... - Version: 1.1.1, 9/11/2008 05:08AM PST

I am using version 1.1.2 in fact, with a Core 2 MACOSX 10.5.4

The product is really very intuitive and easy to use, but...

I believe I am one of the only crazy guys that organise my stuff record base and not artist based and there is no way to tell how to organise the back-up to podUp. It just assumes you want a plain, artist based directory structure and goes for it...

So, you end up with a directory structure like:
.../artist
.../artist/album 1
.../artist/album 1/all music
.../artist/album 2
.../artist/album 2/all music
etc...

I will continue looking for an alternative, because I really would like to keep my album organisation, else the software is all I was looking for...

podUp ReviewDoes what is says - Version: 1.1.1, 7/28/2008 02:38AM PST

I had some purchased iTunes tracks that I'd forgotten to copy to my fileserver and somehow they got deleted from my macbook. podUp was able to copy them all back and rename them with understandable filenames.

If I'm picky, the interface is very basic and doesn't look like a typical OS X application but then again, I was able to do what I needed to do without reading any documentation so it's good enough and the price was right!

There's a new version (1.1.1) that can self-update and is internationalized for french, german and italian. VT seem to be taking a long time (4 days so far) to update this page, so you can get it at the futsoft page: http://www.futility.co.uk/futsoft/podup.html

podUp ReviewNo problems here - Version: 1.0.0, 1/18/2008 12:00AM PST

After reading some of the comments I was prepared to be disappointed; however, the program ended working exactly as advertised with my 80 GB iPod Classic (purchased in 2007).

podUp CommentaryEmpty Folders - Version: 1.0.0, 1/14/2008 12:22AM PST

I used the software to copy my iPod onto an external hard drive. The result was empty folders for every artist, and a list of folders from A-Z which held random .mp3 files. I noticed on the application window that it said that there were 5,000 some odd errors. Total size of files copied was around 9GB out of 28GB on the iPod. I'm going to wipe out the old files and try again, but this time I'll create a folder on the hard drive and copy into the folder instead of directly onto the hard drive. Don't know if that will make a difference...

podUp Commentaryscrambles accented / "umlaut" characters - Version: 1.0.0, 11/23/2007 12:38AM PST

Thanks for making this little software available. I have been looking for a way to backup my iPod files for a long time.
However, there is one thing I don’t get: podUp alters the characters of certain words such as “umlaute” or accented characters, eg:

“ü” becomes “,”
“Helén” becomes “HelËn”
“MFÖ” becomes “MF÷”
“Björk” becomes “Bjˆrk”
...and so on.

This is so annoying, particularly since the tool is so useful otherwise! It is not desirable to redo all this by hand. Is there a way of working around this? Even more annoying is that the author's contact email address is dead. Please can you get in touch? - As I said, apart from this flaw: excellent tool!

I am using a Macbook Pro on OS X 10.4.11.

I must be the most skeptical person I know. Upon downloading this software, I expected it to be a major disappointment just like all the other ipod transfer software I have downloaded. But I was shocked at how efficient this software worked. It downloaded every song intact with all track names put neatly into organized files of artist and album just as itunes does in the music folder. Could not ask for it to work better. Thank you so much. You saved me from having to re-rip 400+ CD's!!

podUp Reviewipod "not recognized" - Version: 1.0.0, 9/25/2007 12:37AM PST

ffeerrddiinnaanndd
I drag my 30 GB black video iPod on the window, I get a message "iPod not recognized" (spelled with "s", ugh!)

The iPod icon disappears from the Finder, iPod blinks "Do not remove". iPod icon stays on in iTunes where it has to be ejected by the usual method, then it actually IS ejected (iPod stops blinking "Do not remove")

OSX 10.4.10, iPod bought in 2006.

Cmd-del.
