Product Description:

Playing Second Life and you would like to know which of your friends are online before you launch the application? With Second Life Notifier, you can track who's getting online and offline without having to login Second Life. Second Life Notifier doesn't merely display a list of online friends. By extracting the information from the Second Life website, it can maintain its own list of who's online, providing the ability to alert you when one of your friend gets online or offline.

Features:
  • Using Growl, sends visual notifications when one of your friend gets online or offline
  • Plays an audio alert when a friend gets online and another audio alert when a friend gets offline
  • Bounce the application icon in the Dock
  • Shows number of friends online on the application icon in the Dock
  • Displays the name of your friends in the application Dock menu
  • Sorts your friends by first or last name

What's new in this version:

  • Fixes a problem where the audio alert checkboxes were ignored and audio alerts would always play
  • Beta expiration date extended to March 20, 2007.

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

Second Life Notifier Commentarygood app, but could use some improvement... - Version: 1.1.2v62, 9/17/2008 05:29PM PST

Interesting application, but could use a little work. it feels very clustered/busy, because the preferences aren't located in a separate window accessible from a menu item. I feel it would be much more unobtrusive it it appeared onscreen as a much more simplified list. Additionally, a feature worth considering would be better indicators of which friends have just come online or just left. Personally, i feel this would be best accomplished if the names of friends that have just been added to the list appear in the list for a brief time (maybe 1.5 seconds?) in bold, and the names of those who have gone offline appear in italics for 1.5 seconds before being removed from the list. Another aspect that i'm unsure about is why the locations don't constantly appear next to the names of online friends. is that a bug in the app, or something with Second Life itself?

Second Life Notifier Review*not* a waste of time - Version: 1.0v31, 4/19/2007 07:14PM PST

This is so *not* a waste of time...it lets me monitor who is logging on and off SL in a very 'Mac' way with growl, without having to start SL or constantly refresh a web page. I'll be buying it just as soon as I can and it is perfect...don't even consider making it a useless widget...why would I want to constantly check the dashboard? I could refresh the web page...growl is just right.

Sorry guys this just ain't mac stuff. This should be a widget not a program. Why would i wanna open an application to see if i wanna open another application?
