RE: Fun for all and all for fun - Version: 1.0.1.4, 1/23/2008 12:00AM PST

I'm not a scrabble expert, or speak or write English well. However, this game is a great load of fun, and highly recommend for anyone with moderate to slightly better skills with words. The game is easy to figure out, can go to big screen (27") without problems, and play is nice (animation) yet as stated a bit fast when the computer executes a move. The definitions are a bit terse, could use to be a bit better in that area of functionality. Graphics are nice, fun and bright. Over all, nice job and worth buying.
Major flaws, but is still the only real scrabble game for OS X - Version: 1.0.1.4, 12/20/2007 07:20AM PST

maxmgClearly, the largest flaw from a player's perspective is the choice of Dictionary. Of all the possibilities, I wonder what led the designer(s) to choose Meriam Webster. I hope that in future a patch is released that allows for CSW, SOWPODS, or some far more interesting and useful word list.
I was just playing a game and the computer used NAKFA, which is not an allowable scrabble word (chambers word wizard), for example. And you obviously can't challenge it!
There are other flaws, and annoying bugs. In no particular order they are:
1) Memory. I can only presume there is some leak in it somewhere since playing more than 4 games results in it running incredibly slowly.
2) After a game, look at the high scores table, then go back. You're not where you started from, and have to go to the main menu.
3) The computer plays far too quickly (at Elite level, apparently the top level is slower), making it hard to keep track of which tiles have just been placed whilst you were glancing at the rack.
4) Launching the game results in two sessions being launched, only one of them with a window.

- Major flaws, but is still the only real scrabble game for OS X
There are major holes in the ability of being able to work with the on board dictionary.
There are bugs and omissions in the selection of user preferences.
The documentation although complete in many respects is lacking in the area of the actual program's execution. For example, the interface of player and levels.
This writer could continue with comment however it would be a waste of time.
This program is circa 2005 and here we are 5 or 6 years later. A lot has changed in that time in the area of the machine and the OS which run it, not to mention the accepted verbiage in the language.
It is my impression of MacGamehouse that they are aware they have here a cash cow. This is a well known product and a popular game, they are banking on that. Most people will pay there money and for a little while put up with the flaws but eventually move on to more polished products. For the Scrabble game there are Mac alternatives, perhaps not perfect but with improved execution.
It is my hope the developer will read this review and decide that thought and action should be given to a major revamp of this product. This product in its current presentation by this developer is outstanding. However it needs to be updated and polished to meet the demands and expectations of today's Mac computer user. (Mid 2009)
Respectfully submitted.
