I just purchased CIV4 and I am not able to connect with a friend and we both have 10.5.3. I find the new port mapping to be a whole helluva lot complicating than the previous OS. Trying to make heads or tails of it. thinking that this will help? anyone?

Lighthouse Reviewgreat product, helps speed up transmission - Version: 1.2.3, 12/11/2007 07:10AM PST

Well lately using leopard azureus has been giving me plenty of kernel panics and I never could get any speed out of transmission due to my ports always being stealth or blocked even when I forwarded the ports. Then when I was reading some forums I stumbled across this, downloaded it, and now transmission downloads just as fast as azureus if not faster, my ram isn't being used as much and no more kernel panics. plus the port is always open. I give this a 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this off Maczot and found it didn't work reliably with my router. The developer figured out that it was a router bug and worked around it.

What it does is easy enough to do manually, but I'd rather spend my time on something else.

Highly recommended.

I've been using Lighthouse for several months now, and have come to depend on it. Originally, we had a funky Belkin PnP wireless router and setting up port forwarding was a real pain. There are a few Mac applications that can set the PnP forwarding automatically, but most had trouble with the Belkin. Even after getting Lighthouse installed there were problems, but due to the persistence of the developer in releasing good software, the problems were worked out and we finally had trouble free port forwarding.

Recently, we ditched the old Belkin in favor of a new Apple Extreme Base Station. This Apple router is not the easiest to set up for port forwarding. Also, it does not use PnP, rather using something called PMP-NAT, which means that the few Mac applications that I use that did PnP were in the cold. Luckily for us, Lighthouse handles the duties flawlessly. If you have an Apple Extreme Base Station, this software will make life easier.

I also like how easy it is to write my own port forwarding profiles. In fact, others can write new profiles, submit them to the developer, and share them with everyone. You can easily modify any existing profile to your own needs or whims. There seems to be little or no hit on machine performance with Lighthouse. Another plus is that it is reasonably priced. The support from the developer is as good as I've seen.

Lighthouse CommentaryGreat software but kind of unnecessary. - Version: 1.2, 4/2/2007 02:11PM PST

Lighthouse unfortunately is useless for 99% of users because most applications have the UPnP functionality built in. iChat, LimeWire, Azureus, Xtorrent, and many many more do the port mapping for you via built in UPnP. That's really what UPnP was made for. To be built into the code so you, the user, doesnt have to think about it. I really do like the software though, if Applications didnt do this on their own I would use Lighthouse for sure.

Lighthouse ReviewMust have Internet utility! - Version: 1.0.3, 12/8/2006 11:50AM PST

OK... I’ve got to give this app a five star rating. It didn’t work at first with my router, but I wanted it to work desperately. The developer was very responsive throughout, and together we were able to track down the problem. I’m a happy user now. Lighthouse is fantastic and, like Little Snitch, a must have for anybody who is accessing the Internet through a router. Strongly recommended!
