Product Description:

Xslimmer reduces the disk space taken up by Mac OS X applications removing localizations you don't need, and preserving just the Intel or PowerPC version of the code in Universal Binaries.

Xslimmer is a new, user-friendly way to size down your Mac OS X apps, removing the code inside the Universal Binaries that does not fit with your machine's architecture, and deleting the localizations you don't need.
This is done in a safely way backing up your apps before slimming, downloading a "blacklist" of apps that check themselves, or allowing you to exclude any application, folder or path.

What's new in this version:

Xslimmer 1.2.5 is a bug-fix release that improves reliability, compatibility and solves a rare but severe bug that caused some licenses to not be recognized properly. Upgrading is recommended for all Xslimmer users.

New features

  • Drop ignores excluded paths. When dropping folders or using the app finder Genier, Xslimmer will ignore excluded paths. Previously, apps inside those folders were analyzed and shown to the user as not eligible for slimming.

Bugs solved

  • No more rejected licenses. Xslimmer 1.2.4 was affected by a rare bug in AquaticPrime, the otherwise wonderful licensing library we use for encryption. This bug affected a handful of users whose licenses were wrongfully rejected, even if they had been purchased prior to the release of Xslimmer 1.2.4. After our development of a solution, Lucas Newman (AquaticPrime's author) has been so kind to squeeze some time from his iPhone development efforts ;) to approve the change and commit it to his code. Thanks, Lucas!

  • Missing resource files no longer cause Xslimmer to crash. One of our illustrious users reported a crash that happened when some resource files (such is icons) were not present inside Xslimmer's application bundle. This reminds us that things that should not happen, may well happen anyway, so we've built additional checks into our code to avoid this sort of problems. Thanks a lot, Chris!

  • Locked files are now handled correctly. Applications that contain locked or immutable files (those with the uchg flag set, if you bear the snobism) were not recognized properly, which resulted in Xslimmer displaying them as slimmable, but then failing to slim them down. This happened to very few applications, one example being Microsoft Windows Media Player for Mac OS X.

  • Duplicate app names are now correctly supported by the blacklist. In previous versions, applications with the same name but different bundle identifiers (which is usually the case for different versions of the same app) were sometimes not identified properly by the blacklist. This resulted in a few applications, such as certain versions of Ultralingua, that could be slimmed down even if they had been included in the blacklist. This has been fixed in Xslimmer 1.2.5.

Xslimmer CommentaryOne glaring flaw? - Version: 1.7.4.1, 9/21/2009 06:36AM PST

Diks Toosl
This would suddenly become more worth buying if it would identify non-universal binaries & refuse to strip them of code (specifically, XSlimmer can't say 'oops, this is only PPC code, better NOT strip the PPC code from this file!, or User won't be able to run it at all'.

Allowing to the user to brute-force it is tolerable, but more in line w/ freeware than payware.

This is trialware – NOT shareware: until you pay US $ 14,95 you can free up only 50MB!

App developers like that can go scru themselves, afaic.
