This program is great for configuring the firewall in Leopard. I never had a problem with Tiger's firewall, but with the new layout in Leopard I just couldn't get it to punch the holes I needed. This fixed that.
The author's explanation of how the new firewall works in Leopard (Appfirewall vs ipfw) on his website are also very useful.

Great application, thanks.

This is a very nice tool for experienced users. It is a very rich and stable application. Net admins usually prefere to use the shell terminal to configure ipfw firewall on osx/freebsd, but with WaterRoof you can speed up it dramatically. The logging option is great, it's very easy to find entries and to make/understand stats. The manual is too vague, but if you want to use WaterRoof you don't need a good WaterRoof manual... you just need to learn how firewalls work.
This is really recommended to every net admin searching for a fast tool for configuring, testing and troubleshooting a firewall.

even starting it from the admin account, it only showed the log for the admin account firewall ONLY so even if i went to the trouble of logging into the admin account to start it up, the only log/history info it showed was for admin activity not user account activity so that's pretty useless.... unless the guide/interface fails to instruct one HOW to start monitoring all Firewall log activities for all accounts -- which is possible because as one other reviewer mentioned, the documentation is so vague. but if it's only an admin monitoring app and if you only use your admin account (not recommended for security reasons) then you could test this out and get some add'l useful info. but if it's admin only and you're doing most of your day to day work in a user account, this won't serve much purpose.
seems to have some useful features but the guide and app itself is not user friendly; for experienced highly technical advanced users.
good thing it's free.
it is however easier to get started and interact with than so-called GUI interfaces for other recent opensource/shareware/freeware/commercial ... but that ain't sayin much.

This program is quite simply a gui for the ipfw command prompt firewall program. If you don't understand ipfw this program won't help you as the manual is too vague. If this is the case for you you'll be better off sharpening your ipfw skills by manipulating the command line form of ipfw as that is the true way of learning and mastering ipfw.
Since 10.5 switched to the application-level firewall instead of network-level, the customization does not provide the necessary protections for those who may be running one form of a server or another (http, dns, mail, etc.)
Two thumbs up for this application, which once you get past the learning curve of the application and what it's doing, is the best I've tried so far.
