tried to run the update and received this message;

I had to manually install this update. The Boot ROM Version didn't change when I tried to install through auto update. It said it was successfully installed, but the version that remained was the old one. The new version is installed now. Late 2007 model Macbook 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
