SlingPlayer ReviewWorks with Snow Leopard - Version: 1.0.10, 10/31/2009 11:10AM PST

I've run this on Snow Leopard and have found no problems. I have two Classics in the UK, and one AV and one SB Pro in the US. Only the SB Pro asks for a firmware update. I applied this; video appears a little sharper.

SlingPlayer Review1.0.9 works on my original Slingbox - Version: 1.0.9, 6/28/2009 06:13AM PST

appliance
I've got the very first Slingbox. I've installed 1.0.9. It did NOT ask to update the firmware of my Slingbox, but the SlingPlayer is streaming my content anyway. I don't notice a change in quality streaming over my local network, but it looks as good as I expect it to since it's only hooked up to via an S-Video cable.

SlingPlayer ReviewUpdated fine on my MB Pro - Version: 1.0.9, 6/27/2009 09:51PM PST

This update went fine on my MacBook Pro, and so did the firmware update to my SlingBox HD.

The quality on MB Pro is noticeably better, but still far from what I'd except on my local network running 802.11n. (My SlingBox is connected to my Airport Extreme via Ethernet.)

The offsite is quality is mediocre on my MB Pro with an upstream connection of about 1.5Mbit. And on my iPhone it's f***ing terrible.

It's all so 1998... Windoze upgrades and features galore, and the Mac a distant afterthought. Oh well, maybe Windoze 7 will crash it all.

This is typical of what customer service does when they want to charge you for their mistakes:

[1:44 PM] Karol says: Since your Sling product is older than 90 Days, the only way to receive technical support from Sling Media via email, voice and chat is to purchase a Pay Per Incident Support Agreement. This Agreement permits multiple contacts if related to the original issue including email, chat and voice based support interactions and its price is $29.99.
[1:44 PM] Karol says: If you like to purchase this plan, I would suggest you to contact us at 877.GO.SLING (877.467.5464) to proceed with resolving your problem. For security reasons, we do not take credit card information via chat. Once you purchased a support agreement, feel free to contact us back via chat or continue the troubleshooting over the phone and we will gladly help you.
[1:44 PM] Karol says: Also if you prefer you can use our online resources located at http://support.slingmedia.com.

[1:45 PM] says: So you put out a non functional product that screwed up my Slingplayer and now you want me to pay for it?
[1:46 PM] Karol says: Please call to this number: 1-877-467-5464. We will be more than glad to assist you once you have paid for any of our 2 support agreements.
[1:46 PM] says: And you want me to pay for your screwup?
[1:48 PM] Karol says: This is the number: 1-877-467-5464, please call, then we will help you out.
[1:48 PM] says: for free?
[1:49 PM] Karol says: No, you call and then you need to pay and then we will assist you.
[1:49 PM] says: I was going to upgrade my Slingbox and also get the Slingplayer software for the iPhone. Right now the only thing I will be doing is posting this chat transcript to every web page that I can.
[1:49 PM] Karol says: Thanks for contacting Sling Media tech support, have a nice day.
[1:50 PM] Karol has ended the session.

SlingPlayer Review1.0.9 is more solid - Version: 1.0.9, 6/27/2009 09:43AM PST

I've upgraded my firmware using v1.0.9 and speeds are no longer dropping off after 2/3 minutes.

Before 1.0.8 I had to use the firmware from v1.0.4 as the firmware in v1.0.6 and v1.0.7 was suspect on a Classic.

This new version also works well on the Pro and AV models. The AV firmware (1.2.12) is identical to that in v2 for Windows, and the Pro firmware is actually a higher version number (1.3.36).

The Pro has a marked improvement in speed over 1.0.8. The AV and Classic have not been upgraded and probably never will be as they describe them as "legacy" boxes.

The software still doesn't have all the features found in the Windows version, but it's another step forward. Why are Sling so slow in giving us the extra features found in Windows v2?

SlingPlayer ReviewAvoid 1.0.9 (at least save prior version - 1.0.8) - Version: 1.0.9, 6/26/2009 05:55PM PST

1.0.9 trashed the installation on one of my MacBook Pros. The older version won't even work now. 1.0.8 works fine on my G5 yet and 1.0.7 works fine on my other MacBook Pro.

**Got running with 1.0.8 and then tried 1.0.9 and it trashed things again. Now running with 1.0.8
Had to do a re-setup to get running again both times when 1.0.9 screwed things up.

Recommend SlingBox, but not this software version.
