Disco ReviewHit n' Run Club of Useless Promises - Version: 1.0.3, 7/27/2008 12:10PM PST

This developer promised the world, took our cash, and delivered very little. If you were to gauge this software against Toast—Toast would have a Ph.D while Disco is still in kindergarten. Soooooooo much hype you would have thought this application were running for President.

If you want to throw your money away on false promises, go ahead, but I will be avoiding this developer and any affiliations he has with other developers or businesses, period.

Disco Reviewgood idea, OK execution...terrible developer - Version: 1.0.3, 3/13/2008 07:31AM PST

It is just mediocre. You can get Toast for not much more after rebates and it will do MUCH more and get this...actually work! There are issues with disc spanning and other 'features' like the smoke. If you attempt to contact the developer then you will get no response. Thats what you get for buying from a (teenage) developer who says himself that he can't focus on projects but just hops from idea to idea. If you look at his history he hypes something to death, grabs the money from initial sales, and then *poof* gone. Not what I look for in software. I like it to work and then if there is a problem I want the developer to fix it (updates....1.0.3 came out a YEAR later) or at least reply to emails.

Disco Reviewnot even that pretty - Version: 1.0.3, 3/13/2008 04:48AM PST

ok, so let's be honest - it's very little more than a dressed up version of burn.app, so when you buy it, you expect it to be pretty. right out of the gate, i can't get the interactive smoke to work on either my imac (santa rosa) or my macbook pro (also santa rosa). both should be WAY more than sufficient for whatever graphic requirements smoke has, yet it works on neither. i've tried for nearly two weeks w/5 emails to get support to RESPOND AND ACKNOWLEDGE my problem, and they haven't.

save your money.

Disco CommentaryWhy shouldn't I listen to tcloer? - Version: 1.0.3, 3/2/2008 11:48PM PST

With all due respect NeoX, tcloer makes some very good points, for example regarding Disco's hype, having Toast for breakfast, and being an alternative to Toast.
I don't care that much if Disco uses X or Y technology. I do care if the software lives up to its promise. Disco certainly has failed me. I've used it since the first beta versions became available and Disco was much cheaper. I always went back to Toast.

Finally, after almost 1 year, some of the old bugs have been addressed.
I'm sure that many people will enjoy Disco. Many will find the $29 price fair. But others are certainly entitled to post their opinions.

jreffner, if you wanted something cheaper than Toast, Burn is actually free.
Also, Toast can be found relatively cheap since from time to time there are frequently offers and rebates available.

Disco CommentaryDon't listen to tcloer, disco is much more... - Version: 1.0.3, 3/2/2008 09:14PM PST

Disco is much more then a fancy wrapper for built in frameworks. So what if it uses the frameworks that are built in to OS X for disc burning. Disco adds a great workflow, support for cataloging the contents you burn and much more. Comparing the ease of Disco to disk utility is like comparing a firecracker to a nuclear bomb. There is no comparison...

Disco ReviewWe are Happy - Version: 1.0.3, 3/2/2008 08:59AM PST

I needed something easy for the wife to use that didn't cost as much as Toast and that was easier than using the Finder. Disco is exactly that. So far it's been great.

The only two areas that need improvement are:

1. Burning of VIDEO_TS folders (they don't always work where Toast does)

2. It would be nice to be able to select the disc type you want to burn from the front on the interface. Going into the prefs is too annoying. Plus, those descriptions need to be easier for the novice to understand (i.e. UDF = DVD data or movies)

Disco ReviewUp in smoke - Version: 1.0.3, 3/2/2008 07:47AM PST

Considering all the pre-launch hype, this application is a complete rip-off. It's mainly a smokey wrapper about OS X's disk burning framework. One can easily use Disk Utility instead.

They wanted to have Toast for breakfast. And we wanted an alternative to Toast. But Disco does not even come close. I am nothing but gutted.
