Product Description:

If you deal with PNG files, you need this app.

PNG is a great format. It's lossless, patent-free, open, and supported by all sorts of stuff. It's great for screenshots, line drawings, and anything that needs to look good. Unfortunately, many programs which save to PNG format do a horrible job of it. Adobe Photoshop is one of the worst offenders, creating PNG files many times the size they should be. So we created Ping. To use it, simply drop a PNG file on it. Ping will then optimize the file, often reducing its size to a mere fraction of the original.

Unlike similar utilities, Ping is a Universal Binary. Not only that, but we've optimized OptiPNG (the underlying tech. that powers Ping) for the latest Intel chips -- taking advantage of all the cool (at least to us geeks) features that're at the heart of Apple's latest and greatest computers.

Interested? Well Ping is free -- so try it out!

Ping Reviewvery good - Version: 1.0.1, 12/22/2006 03:58AM PST

A nice lean piece of software that does a very good job of something that was previously very tedious with command line tools. Congratulations to the authors for avoiding bloat. To the other reviewers who complain they don't get very good compression results - you have to understand that this is the nature of data compression. This program will do its best to find the optimum compression settings for your image, but if your PNG file is already saved with optimum compression settings then this isn't going to magically shrink the file any more. You're likely to find some files shrink by more then 50% and some have no saving at all - it's not a problem with this program, it just depends on how well compressed the input image is.

I have dragged Png files over Ping icon - one of 93mb and one of 24mb. It took the application a l o n g time to process the files and the results were: 1 file of 93mb and 1 file of 24mb. Just waste of time.
