expod Usage Tipworks now with 10.4.11- but nano 5G still crashes it - Version: 0.7.1, 10/2/2009 09:46AM PST

morbius
Developer did a fast job of fixing a boot crash with 10.4.xx, but the new nano 5G will still halt the app dead. All the other iPods I've tested it with are fine.

App will start, and sit there. But once a touch is attached, it will crash. Older version will not see touch with iTunes 9 and 3.1.1.

expod ReviewNot for Iphone - Version: 0.5, 4/19/2009 12:22AM PST

This app would not work for my iphone. When I open it, the app would close unexpectedly, however I had an idea. I connected my son's ipod (3rd Gen. 30gb) it worked perfectly. unfortunately the songs I needed are still on my iphone. Did not see any documentation.

Overall good app for ipod.

expod ReviewGreat utility with one exception - Version: 0.5, 3/29/2009 03:00PM PST

llimit_cycle
Works as advertised, and you can't beat the price, but I got the "bad filename" error that someone else mentioned. Looking at the offending files, the problem seems to be that expod will not copy any files that have a colon (:) in their filenames. It handles other odd characters and accents, but not colons. Expod warns you of this problem with a pop-up, but allows only "continue" and "quit" alternatives, no way to temporarily change the filename, e.g., to allow it to copy. So back to the terminal to get that handful of rejected files.

I'm using OSX10.5.6 and an original iPod.

expod Reviewhad to return to earlier versin - Version: 0.4, 2/28/2009 12:17PM PST

I really appreciate what this program does. But the new update kept saying there was a naming error with the tracks I wanted to copy, so I reverted to the older 0.3 version and it works fine. The tracks I had were purchased from Amazon, but I didn't have any problem bringing them into the iTunes folder and using them on my Nano. fyi, I am using an older Mac at my office, which is where I had the problem (a mirrored door Mac running 10.4.11.

I had accidentally lost my 5000 songs on my G4 iMac when I upgraded to 10.4. I ran my usual backup to my backup drive and forgot my new iTunes folder was empty and it deleted all my backup - DUH! I had all the songs copied to my iPod (4th Gen Photo) but the iPod was coming up with a 'unhappy' symbol and was not readable in iTunes any longer. TYPICAL.
I tried a couple of other utilities but they could not read the iPod in its broken state. Expod did, however - brilliantly! It allowed me to browse all the tracks hidden away on the iPod and retrieve them back onto my iMac.
One problem was that, occasionally the copying would stop when the software seemed to find a track already copied and would not overwrite "Could not copy file....", as mentioned in another post - happened about 10 times in 5000 songs. Luckily it told me what song it had frozen on and I was able to go back to my selected list of songs in Expod, ignore the file that would not copy (as, invariably, it had already copied it and would not overwrite it) and carry on from that point on by selecting the remaining songs.
So, Expod saved me having to reimport all my CDs one by one! All track, artist and album was preserved as well! Once copied back, I was able to drag and drop the whole lot back into iTunes.
Took a while - I did, however, stupidly do it over USB1, even though I have FW - only realised after!
I am thrilled to have resurrected my music and thoroughly recommend this software. Thank you to the authors. I am making a small donation to a charity as a gesture of my satisfaction and gratitude!

expod ReviewProblems Copying - Version: 0.3, 3/31/2007 02:43PM PST

theevo
expod stopped only 5% of the way through the copy process. It had problems copying certain songs, saying something like "This song could not be copied." I tried to copy just the songs that were in question, but still no luck. If you don't mind copying all the songs off of your iPod, I would recommend podUp.
