Product Description:

Scribus is an open-source program that brings award-winning professional page layout to Linux/Unix, MacOS X and Windows desktops with a combination of "press-ready" output and new approaches to page layout. Underneath the modern and user friendly interface, Scribus supports professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, ICC color management and versatile PDF creation. Scribus/Aqua is a port of Scribus to a native Aqua build using Qt Free for MacOSX.
Note: Version 1.3.3.2 is the latest version that is included with this installer. Version 1.3.3.3 can be downloaded for other OS's. The first launch of Scribus or when a new user launches Scribus will be much longer than usual. This is because Scribus is creating a cache file of your fonts. Later re-starts will be much quicker.

What's new in this version:

This release is purely a further bug fix release to the recently eleased 1.3.3.8. This release adds more translation updates, some bugs were found and fixed, added some improvements to the SVG importer and improvements to PDF forms.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher

Aqua Scribus ReviewBrilliant.. until it burned up on re-entry. - Version: 1.3.3.10, 4/4/2008 04:16PM PST

I loaded this program ( it seems as if the newer version is compiled - or the link was fixed ) without incident. It took a while to open it as it processed and went through my fonts, and such. Then when the new document dialogue box popped up I was in HEAVEN! I loaded in my numbers and whee!

Then I found out that you couldn't type directly into the textboxes. I found the work around in the Read-Me text on the Scribus website, involving using the "story editing" and the "dummy text" So I did that, and I typed away... then clicked on an outside web browser, for a second, and there was nothing left. Control Z! no effect -- it wasn't something I did. I went to the website and tried to enter a new bug report, but it wasn't possible, or obvious. I tried to download the noted stable versions from the Scribus website, but they are only offered in code...So then I rewrote everything, and was going strong, when I thought I should save the text somewhere... and I copied opened a text file... and pasted *nothing* and then Scribus crashed. All the text gone.

Please fix this program, or make the stable versions available and compiled. and seriously, that Story-editing feature is kind of dumb... Especially with the memory leak, and crashing. In order for this to be a proper Desktop Publishing program, you need to be able to edit in the page.

But I'm really thrilled that this exists... I just wished it didn't eat my text, and waste my time, ad make things complicated.

Aqua Scribus CommentaryMac-Friendly Pkg Installer Please - Version: 1.3.3.10, 1/9/2008 12:48AM PST

I agree with the other comments here. This developer would have a lot more success with distributing his program amongst typical Mac users if he/they took the time to compile the program first. Many inexperienced Mac users don't have a clue regarding what the XCode Developer tools are, are still afraid of the Terminal, and wouldn't know how to begin to compile a program from source. Macs are all about being user-friendly; remember? :)
