regarding earlier comment from Spock: i searched sourceforge, and found only two projects connecting darwin and debian, and both are in beginning stages. if what you say is true, please be more specific. i've been trying to find a way to run debian stuff on OS X for a while now.

Apple Darwin OS CommentaryNeed Binary Please! - Version: 6.6, 5/15/2003 07:06AM PST

I have a laptop I don't want to install OS X on and it will not boot from the earlier binary Darwin installers (cuz it's newer). I wish Apple would provide downloadable disc images to boot from and install this newest Darwin build so support the newer machines that will not boot the older binary Darwin builds.

Andreas..
It isn't the same as pre-X. To copy everything from one drive to another exactly would produce a drive that wouldn't work. Seems strange at first, but some things must be copied over, some must not. To emphasise this we no longer call the result a "backup", but a "clone". Currently I would say that the best tool for the job is Carbon Copy Cloner. If you need help the author, Mike Bombich, has a site for that purpose.
