Xtorrent ReviewNo support for slow and limited torrent client -- Avoid It! - Version: 2.0 (v83), 11/8/2009 06:22PM PST

I made the mistake of purchasing this on the advice of a rather naive friend; it was a day later when I went looking for documentation so I could optimize the settings and -- there is none! Plus, search results have one or two relevant items mixed in with hundreds of unrelated results -- for instance, a search for old "Jack Benny" radio programs produced 70's music collections, the history of pop music, and a polish music collection. I have tried to add other torrent sites to the search engine (which has dialogue boxes to do just that) and adding the sites just doesn't work. I paid for PRO which is supposed to give you more search results and faster downloading and there is absolutely no improvement over the free version. Plus it gives you no information about who is downloading from you, how fast it's going out, what peers you're connecting to, etc. I would stay far away from this; it's useless.

Xtorrent ReviewWaste of energy.... - Version: 2.0 (v83), 10/19/2009 02:27PM PST

Throttles your download to nearly unusable speed. Knowing full well that the reason for torrents is for faster DLs....this app drops the DL speed to near dial-up speed. Both a waste of time and energy. You have to keep your machine on constantly to get large files.
Also....I couldn't find out what files were being uploaded....and from where but in a week, over a gig of uploads occurred....if people have access to my computer, shouldn't I know where they have access to? Shouldn't I be able to SEE what is being uploaded by file name and path?

I've been using xtorrent since it was released and Acquisition before that and have been relatively happy with both products.....until now.

Since upgrading to version 2 I find that searches are pretty hopeless as there is a load of junk results that are returned making finding legitimate torrents a chore. Even when I do find a torrent that I searched for it's hit and miss as to wether it starts to download. I believe that this is because a lot of trackers block the developers torrent apps for some reason unknown to me. At least in version 1 you could tell if a tracker had banned the client easily enough. Now you can't and the torrent just sits there in your queue doing nothing.

I've also found that download speeds seem to be a lot slower and many torrents seem to just stop downloading part way through and the only way to get them going again is to either pause & restart the download or restart the app.

I think i've just about had it with this app for the time being and will be looking to try an alternative. It's a shame because I really do like the app but it's just not working in its current state. I agree that the customer service from the developer is lacking but I could live with this if the app did a good job.

So what's the best torrent out their for osx?.....Transmission?.... please let me know.
