Product Description:

Versomatic's patent-pending technology will automatically backup all file changes in real-time while you work. Just as easily you can go back in time to any earlier file or restore previously deleted files regardless of when they were deleted (unlike traditional undelete utilities that only work well right after the deletion takes place). By preserving all file changes as they happen, not just once a day, Versomatic can be a powerful complement to "old-school" scheduled backup applications such as the upcoming Leopard "Time Machine."

Versomatic is fully integrated into your desktop and file system. Retrieving previous versions of files is as simple as selecting the file anywhere on the desktop and then right-clicking or control-clicking the mouse to reveal a pop-up menu showing all of the file's archived revisions. It's like a multiple-undo feature for all your document changes!

Versomatic supports all applications and file types. There are no buttons to press and nothing to remember to do. The entire process is transparent and automatic. You won't notice that Versomatic is installed -- until you need to retrieve a lost version of a file.

KEY BENEFITS

  • Personal real-time version tracking and archiving
  • 100% Recovery of Deleted Files
  • Protect Web & Source Code Locally
  • No Backend Servers or Internet Connectivity Needed

Use your favorite application to develop new ideas, collaborate, brainstorm, make and save changes knowing that all steps can be quickly retraced.

Versomatic works with any type of file or application including Office, the Adobe Suite, Quark, PDF, DTP, CAD, HTML, TXT, C++, JPG photos ... (you get the picture).

Once installed, there is nothing you need to do for Versomatic to "do its thing." If you know how to save files and right-click or control-click the mouse you are ready to go.

What's new in this version:

  • This build introduces Japanese language support and a special version of the software only available in Japan.
  • Now works properly with Illustrator files that use only numbers in the file name.
  • This update lets users who've tried prior builds trial the software again for up to 30 days.
  • Includes assorted fixes needed for it to run reliably under the most current pre-release version of Leopard. We continue to track Mac OS X "Leopard" to ensure Versomatic works perfectly with it upon its release late 2007.
  • Licensed owners will no longer get nagged to reenter their serial number under certain conditions.
  • Versomatic now respects the privacy of the "\Users" directory. Previous versions of files within each user's \Users directory are no longer accessible to other users.
  • Fixed the incompatibility with FileVault.
  • The ".sparceimage" file type is now ignored internally by default. This is the file type of FileVault archives and was necessary in order to correct the FileVault incompatibility.
  • Fixed the incompatibility with Speed Download.

Versomatic ReviewWorth the money if you need to use it. - Version: Build 50, 4/3/2007 11:54AM PST

I have been using Versomatic for a few months and it does what is says in the box. Whenever the document is saved, the old versions are kept in another folder so that it is possible to access them. To access the old versions, you just right click on the file and they appear in the menu.

I am saving the versions folder automatically at night using another application so all the old versions of the documents I am working on are still there.

I was having second thoughts about whether the money spent was worth it but then a couple of nights ago I was working on a presentation and the application freezed. The version I had saved was corrupted, but the previous one was still there.

This is one useful program.

Versomatic CommentaryNeeds a Secure Empty Trash Option - Version: Beta Build 29, 11/8/2006 04:03PM PST

The product seems to fill a very important gap and I was very excited to use it. Unfortunately, even when you delete a file using Finder's Secure Empty Trash, the program saves the file without allowing you to securely delete it. This is too fundamental a problem for me. There must either be an option that the program will not save files that are deleted using the Secure Empty Trash or, if it is to be saved, then the saved file must have the option of a secure or multi-pass deletion. I also couldn't find where the saved files were kept. The user's manual should tell you where in the hard drive the saved files are. I have already e-mailed the programmer and he agreed that my suggestion is a good idea and he will try to incorporate it into the next revision whenever that comes out. I have now uninstalled the program--the uninstaller did not delete everything; for that I manually checked for everything using the Finder under Acertant and Versomatic and then used Secure Empty Trash. I look forward to the next revision but I can't recommend the current revision at this time. Also, the price seems a bit high.
