Very Buggy + Expensive

samsara09It is also *woefully* buggy, to the point of uselessness in many situations.
On top of that, the developer/support has failed to respond to a single polite email that i've sent them.
This App has potential, but i would have to say AVOID at the moment

nickmcfliesusually you can chose to allow any connection to whatever application but somehow it does not work for this one.
asked the dev who was really willing to help me out but he finally gave up on this 'bug' so basically, I stopped using it too.

info4542I was horrified to find that my message was surrounded by spam for Spyder and spent the next hour going through myspace's incredibly slow process of removing my comments to the 40 people it posted to. Unfortunately, I couldn't recind the dozen or so people who must approve comments still got the message.. I was pissed... and so were some of the recipients.
I understand this being part of the demo.. but only after it made me a spammer. Outrageous. Maybe its written in the intro somewhere, but I didn't see it..
I suggest you warn people each time before they click send that if you use the demo version this is going to happen. Give people notice or disable multiple comments in the demo mode, instead of prostituting the software and those who are trying out the demo.
I have to tell you, I would have been sold on the multiple comment feature alone, but you put my reputation on the line, not to mention possible expulsion from myspace. This disregard for people in the use of your demo was ample reason NOT to buy the product. Are there any other ways you use the product to promote itself?
Not cool.

Good Idea - doesn't seem like even a 1.0 release though.

sys_ops911That said - there should be SOME way to parse data without locking up the UI. Unfortunately as things are loading the rest of the program just ceases to function. Unfortunately, particularly with no cached data - it seems like the program is no longer responding (it is). At the very least I would suggest adding some kind of progress bar - perhaps there is and i missed it.
Secondarily - Setting some standard menu shortcuts would be a good idea. When a user wants to reply to a message, many will go for the mail key combo. Having to touch the menu for basic tasks is cubersome.
Also - there seems to be superfluous visual data in the itunes like lcd display portion, making that clickable to go to a given area would satisfy expected behaviour. They look like clickable objects.
You have laid some great groundwork here, and I hope to see the continuing improvement. There are two reasons I won't be purchasing the software.
The first is the lack of usability due to constant ui lockups caused by data fetching. Maybe you can add a one time huge update so teh incremental updates won't impact so much.
The second reason is the price. As much as I feel developers need to be rewarded - and pay for my mac applications/donate to opensource. The price is too much for someone like me - just a myspace user. Perhaps if your target audience is bands, politicians, etc - i can see it - but to basically pay that price to not use a web browser - I really feel you'd have more success about $1 0 less. Obviously - value is in the eye of the beholder - and in no way do my thoughts on the product price reflect your hard work - its just a niche product that has a singular use - and used mostly for recreation - and all of the functionality can be not only replicated online, but faster at this point.
Again, I look forward to seeing the progress with this program, and you've definitely got a good start.

Alien ImplantA word about speed. First, there are a few preferences you can tweak to optimize performance and stability. Secondly, to truly understand how impressive this program is, you have to consider what it is actually doing (i.e. sending http requests to myspace in bulk and waiting for their turtle-like servers to respond with useful informaiton). Considering all the useless crap you normally have to navigate in a browser and the fact that this software automates these agonizing into a string of speedy request, I'd say the author of this software deserves a freaking medal of honor.
I highly recommend this program if you possess any computer savvy. If you don't understand what's going on under the hood, you might not be impressed. Your loss. This program blows me away. There isn't any other program on the Mac (or Windows for that matter) that comes anywhere close to what this does.
Thanks a million!

Spyder now offers Captcha assistance, but they sell each and every Captcha operation for a somewhat outlandish price. You can wind up paying thousands; but I suspect that's an option for mass spammers.
