Egoid Reviewbroken - Version: 1.3, 1/11/2007 11:43AM PST

was a handy little app... the main problem was the menu bar icon didn't auto update after you had a new request, mail, etc.

Alas, now it doesn't work at all... never updates to show anything new.

So far, I was only able to test the message feature, which works okay, but takes quite a while to realize new mail. Here's a few ideas for future development:

*Allow higher polling rates - 1,2 minutes maybe?
* A menubar-only version would be nice - Dock Icon + Menubar + Window is overkill.
* Maybe organize the icons so that the widget takes up less space.
* Replace "Click here to refresh Egoid" with a nice spinning button.
* Tidy up the Settings menu, add tooltips for the options.
* Add Growl integration (!!)
* Integrate a login check - right now, you can use any login/pass combination, even impossible or nonexistant ones, and Egoid happily reports refreshing.

So much for now - nice app, hope you continue developing it - oh, and don't spend those 5 bucks all in one place ;)

Yep, just as others have said - it does precisely nothing. Even the 'floating window' pref does nothing. Not only that, the complete lack of anything like documentation leaves me wondering what it's even supposed to do if it did anything.

Not to mention, it looks like it was designed by a 12-year old - especially the pref sheet. Why on earth would you have a sheet (ugly or not) pop out of such a bizarre, custom window anyway? And what's with the "Quit NewApplication" menu command? Is it called Egoid, or is it called NewApplication? I think someone needs to beat this guy senseless with the UI guidelines for a few years.
